Established in 2022, CCA is committed to decoding China's complexities with an "inside-out" approach by offering evidence-based, independent, and policy-relevant analyses with a balanced, holistic, and human-centered focus, covering Chinese domestic politics; economy and technology; foreign policy and national security; climate, energy and the environment; society, public health, and education. Summary The Asia Society Policy Institute’sCenter for China Analysis (CCA) seeks a skilled and strategic Communications and Engagement Manager to elevate the visibility, reach, and impact of CCA’s research and analysis on China. This role blends strategic communications and policy fluency. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of China and international policy issues, proven experience translating research into engaging public narratives, and the judgment to navigate a politically sensitive communications environment. The manager will serve as the key bridge between CCA’s research team and external audiences — including media, policymakers, thought leaders, and the informed public — helping shape how CCA’s "inside-out" analysis of China informs global debate. Responsibilities: Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to amplify CCA’s publications, newsletters, projects, and events across public and private channels, tailoring messaging to key audiences including policymakers, business leaders, academics, media, and thought leaders. Shape and streamline both external and internal communications across the Center, establishing and enforcing processes that ensure consistency, brand coherence, and alignment with CCA’s "inside-out" mission. Manage CCA’s digital presence across Substack, LinkedIn, CRM platforms, and the website, while developing long-term strategies for audience growth, paid subscription offerings, and email marketing initiatives. Coordinate internal and external communications, including drafting press releases, newsletter copy, social media content and campaigns, internal communications, and donor reports. Ensure seamless collaboration across teams to deliver clear, consistent, and timely messaging. Create original content by translating CCA’s research and insights into compelling, accessible formats, including policy briefs, visual content, and videos, to maximize impact across diverse audiences. Track and analyze key performance indicators, including media coverage, social media engagement, and newsletter performance, and provide regular insights and strategic recommendations to leadership. Qualifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Asian Studies, International Relations, or similar field 3-4 years of progressively responsible experience in communications, preferably in a think tank, research institute, or policy organization. Demonstrated familiarity with China’s domestic and foreign policy debates; Chinese language proficiency strongly preferred. Proven ability to translate complex policy research into accessible, impactful messaging for multiple audiences. Exceptional English writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Experience developing and executing digital and media strategies; fluency with analytics tools. Experience managing digital platforms and social media accounts. Strong interpersonal skills and professional judgment; ability to handle sensitive topics with discretion.
