Radiation Oncology Therapist I, Per Diem, University Campus

Schedule Details: Holidays - No Holidays Required, Monday through Friday Scheduled Hours: 8a-4:30p Shift: 1 - Day Shift, 8 Hours (United States of America) Hours: 0 Cost Center: 10010 - 3692 Radiation Oncology Union: SHARE (State Healthcare and Research Employees) This position may have a signing bonus available. A member of the Recruitment Team will confirm eligibility during the interview process. Major Responsibilities

1. Plans, prepares, and delivers a prescribed course of radiation to patient. Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient-identification prior to treatment. Explains procedure to patient as means of communication during treatment. Answers questions and reassures patient. Reinforces physician's advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and to care.
2. Administers radiation therapy treatments observing radiation safety measures for patients and personnel. Transfers patient safety to treatment table, giving special care to catheters, I.V.'s, and the like.
3. Monitors patient and equipment during treatment. Maintains patient markings. Maintains simulation room. Assists Radiation (Oncologist) and Physicist in simulation of patients prior to radiation treatments. Observes patient for unusual reactions and reports to supervisor or others. Assists in follow-up and clinical examinations of patient.
4. Maintains departmental records. Updates patient charts as required. Maintains records of daily treatment, maintains separate files on all therapy patients. Schedules patient appointments.
5. Assists in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies. Maintains work area in clean, orderly and safe condition. Maintains equipment in good working order; makes minor repairs as necessary. Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown immediately to supervisor or others. Initiates requisitions for supplies as needed.

Position Qualifications License/Certification/Education: 1. Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy. a. If not registered upon hire, the employee will have 1 year to obtain certification as a condition of continued employment. 2. Must possess a valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy. 3. Graduate of JRCERT-approved or CAHEA-approved Radiation Therapy Technology Program. Experience/Skills:

1. Demonstrated clinical knowledge.
2. Effective verbal and written communication skill.
3. Excellent customer service skills and ability to work cooperatively with all members of the healthcare team.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions Work is considered medium. Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment.
