Occupational Therapist

Delmar School District is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to support students in accessing their educational programs and building independence. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with a supportive team of educators and service providers in a student-centered environment.

Qualifications

Masters or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
Valid Delaware Occupational Therapist license or eligibility to obtain one prior to start date
Experience in school-based or pediatric settings preferred
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and travel within the district if needed
Must be 21 years of age. Satisfactory Child Protection Registry. Mantoux skin test/PPD documentation. Cooperative Attitude
Effective communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.

Essential Responsibilities

Conduct evaluations and interpret results to identify student needs
Develop and implement IEP goals and services aligned with student access and participation
Provide direct and consultative occupational therapy services to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Program and Delaware regulations
Develop measurable IEP goals and objectives that support student access to the educational environment
Plan and implement individualized and group therapy interventions focused on fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, self-regulation, visual-motor integration, activities of daily living and school participation skills
Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers to support student success
Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, progress monitoring, and reporting
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with state and district requirements
Provide strategies and training to staff and families to support student success
Remain current with best practices and professional development
Ensure therapy services are delivered in the least restrictive environment (e.g., classroom, small group, or pull-out settings)
Manage caseload effectively, including scheduling, service delivery, and compliance timelines
Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and other applicable laws, regulations and policies
Make reasonable efforts to provide for the care and protection of school property, equipment, and materials
Practice sound interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and families
Maintain a professional relationship, working cooperatively with all school personnel
Collaborate with related service providers (OT, PT, SLP, School Psychologist, etc.) to support integrated programming and student progress
Participate in department or team meetings, professional development, and other school-related duties as requested
Report to work on time every workday, except as afforded by existing law
Perform other duties as directed by the school administration
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to fluently speak and understand English
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers, and reach with hands and arms
While performing the duties of this job, expect occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to travel locally to provide services within natural environments, including homes, community preschools, and childcare settings when necessary.

Salary and Terms of Employment

This position is a full-time, 10-month position consisting of 188 contractual days. Salary is based on the Delmar School District State and Local Teacher salary scales.
