Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Thayer Alternative High School - Evening Academy FRAMINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Schedule: 2:15pm- 9:15pm 2025-2026 School Year Position Summary To provide direct support to students by assisting them in maintaining, improving, or adapting to their health status. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS A valid Massachusetts Practical Nurse License is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Experience in evaluating student skills, interpreting assessment data, and writing clear, concise reports. Strong collaborative, instructional, coaching, and leadership skills to support student programming. Ability to use data effectively to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes. Knowledge of specialized content areas, relevant laws, and educational procedures. Ability to plan and implement lessons that align with district and school goals. Essential Duties And Responsibilities The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. Health Care Identifies specific medical needs related to the student's health status and facilitates appropriate management in the school setting. Serves as a health advocate for the student through communication with parents, health care providers, and community agencies. Facilitates student immunization compliance in accordance with DPH regulations. Triages students and/or staff with injuries or illnesses and provides appropriate interventions and follow-up. Administers medication in compliance with school policy and state regulations. Maintains and implements an individualized health care plan for each student with documented health needs. Facilitates special nursing care for technology-dependent students Safety Educates and promotes compliance with universal precautions. Identifies unsafe conditions in the school setting and collaborates with administration and school personnel to resolve them. Collaborates with school personnel to develop and facilitate safety plans dealing with students with health conditions. Education Collaborates with staff in developing, implementing, and delivering school health programs. Collaborates with staff in modifying the educational program to meet the health and emotional needs of individual students. Consults with teachers regarding students’ specific health issues that may impact learning. Record Keeping/Reporting Maintains computerized medical records for each student enrolled in the district. Maintains updated information on each student’s computer record, including immunizations and screenings. Prepares and submits all reports mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Maintains adequate health room supplies. Provides interpretation of health assessments and medical data for SPED evaluations. Communication Communicate with parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and agencies regarding student health issues when appropriate. Attends meetings and conferences regarding health services and professional development. Maintaining a positive environment in the health room and communicating with students, parents, staff, agencies, and administrators. Interprets school health regulations to school administrators, staff, and parents. Identifies community resources for appropriate referrals. Carries out home visits when indicated for the effective management of health concerns. Professionalism Participates in professional development. Maintains a contemporary knowledge base to provide care to students and staff. Performs all scheduled duties and responsibilities within expected time frames. PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Must be required to move about and traverse throughout the school building. Must often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. It is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e., books, school supplies, etc.). Must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and use hand strength to grasp tools. Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties. Must operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Must be able to input information into a computer and read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person, via email, and on the telephone. In the classroom, one must be able to see and hear continuously to ensure student safety and to speak frequently to provide instruction. May be required to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. Must interact with students, parents, and other staff members and meet multiple demands. While most of the workday is spent inside, students must spend time outdoors for recess, fire drills, and special activities. May be exposed to bodily fluids, disease, or pathogens. May receive injuries from aggressive students. May require some degree of physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling behavior. May provide limited personal care to students. Must occasionally lift or position students to provide services. Must be able to stand, walk, and/or push a wheelchair for extended periods and provide assistance and personal care to students. May be asked to assist with toileting, depending on a student's needs. REPORTS TO Building Principal and Coordinator of Health Services. The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit T) Contract.
