You will provide guidance to other staff, train new rehabilitation staff, and work under general supervision while exercising independent judgment. Essential Job Functions (EJFs) Attend work regularly; may work specific or rotating schedules, extended shifts, and overtime per agency policy. Ensure quality rehabilitation programming for patients, assisting Directors in screening, interviewing, and onboarding Rehab Technicians. Facilitate and instruct patients in therapeutic activities including games, recreation, fitness, swimming, sports, crafts, arts, and team building. Provide instruction in self‑care, independent living, character building, finances, hygiene, etiquette, and related skills. Maintain relationships with local colleges and community resources for guest speakers and patient education. Observe and document patient behavior and participation. Develop knowledge of patient needs, implement workshops, and coordinate new equipment and supplies. Operate state vehicles for patient transportation, ensuring safe travel and compliance with logs. Attend meetings, participate in special projects, and assist in disaster response or COOP activation when required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of rehabilitation methods and mental illness; regulations, policies, and procedures; supervising work; computer and software usage; therapeutic equipment; patient participation assessment; documentation; patient and staff interaction; oral and written communication; instruction and training of others. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Valid Texas driver license or obtain within 90 days; certified CPR or within six months; Certified Rehab Therapy Technician (PTA) or obtain within one year (may be required). Initial Screening Criteria Two years’ experience working with people who have mental illness or intellectual and developmental disabilities. Two years’ experience in developing treatment and support plans for such individuals preferred. Additional Information Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, and LEIE. Flexibility in work hours, overtime, and extended hours may be required.
