Recovery Support Specialist
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Program Director and Clinical Supervisor, the Recovery Support Specialist plays a vital role in empowering individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness to achieve meaningful, self-directed recovery. Through a person-centered, recovery-oriented approach, this position partners with clients to build strengths, develop individualized recovery plans, increase independence, and promote successful integration into the community.
The ideal candidate is compassionate, collaborative, and committed to helping individuals reach their personal goals while advocating for access to quality services and community resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive recovery support services through individual, group, and family interventions that promote wellness, resilience, and recovery.
- Develop, implement, and regularly review individualized, person-centered recovery plans with measurable goals, objectives, and interventions that reflect each client's unique strengths and aspirations.
- Empower clients to identify and pursue meaningful life goals related to housing, employment, education, health care, social relationships, and community involvement.
- Assist clients in accessing and maintaining connections with medical, behavioral health, vocational, educational, residential, and other community-based resources.
- Provide coaching, education, and skill-building interventions that enhance independent living, daily functioning, problem-solving, communication, and self-advocacy.
- Support clients in applying newly developed skills in real-world community settings to promote long-term success and independence.
- Encourage active participation in community activities that foster confidence, inclusion, and improved quality of life.
- Collaborate with clients, families, natural supports, and community partners to coordinate services and promote continuity of care.
- Identify barriers to recovery and community integration, advocate for client needs, and communicate systemic concerns to the Program Director.
- Meet Community Support Program (CSP) Fidelity standards, including productivity expectations, required client contacts, community-based service delivery, and documentation requirements.
- Effectively manage and prioritize workload to ensure timely, high-quality service delivery while meeting established productivity standards.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation in compliance with agency policies, state regulations, accreditation standards, and funding requirements.
- Participate in agency meetings, supervision, required trainings, and professional development opportunities to enhance clinical knowledge and professional growth.
- Represent the agency with professionalism, integrity, and respect while fostering positive relationships with clients, colleagues, referral sources, and community stakeholders.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor or Program Director.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling, or a closely related field required.
- Minimum of one year of experience, or equivalent experience, working with individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness.
- Demonstrated commitment to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and person-centered care.
- Experience collaborating with clients, families, interdisciplinary teams, and community providers to support successful treatment outcomes.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Reliable transportation with the ability to travel throughout the community to provide services.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication and collaboration with the treatment team.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends may be required to meet the needs of clients and the program.
Work Environment
The Recovery Support Specialist works in both office and community-based settings. Daily responsibilities include the use of standard office technology, including computers, telephones, printers, and electronic health record systems. Community-based services require frequent travel to client homes, healthcare providers, community agencies, schools, employers, and other service locations.
This role involves regular interaction with clients, families, community partners, and multidisciplinary team members in a variety of settings. The work environment is dynamic and requires adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to respond effectively to changing client needs while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
