About the Role
Mad Science of Washington DC brings high-energy, theatrical STEM shows and interactive hands-on workshops directly to elementary schools, birthday parties, and community events across the DMV.

You won't spend hours writing lesson plans or buying supplies - we provide 100% of the fully scripted curriculum, lab equipment, and step-by-step training. Your job is to show up on time, maintain full control of the room, and make science unforgettable for kids.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform & Lead: Deliver energetic, scripted 45-to-60-minute science programs for groups of 15 to 50 elementary students.
• Manage the Room: Maintain active classroom control, enthusiasm, and safety standards while conducting live demonstrations.
• Manage Gear: Transport equipment kits safely between our Silver Spring warehouse and performance sites. Set up and break down experiments cleanly.

Transparent Logistics & Schedule Reality

• Travel: You will drive your personal vehicle to on site locations across DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Equipment pickup takes place at our Silver Spring, MD location.
• Timing: Hours fluctuate based on school bookings. Most programs occur during school hours or on weekends.
• Pay Structure: You are paid a flat fee per program (equivalent to $45–$85/hr), plus paid orientation/training and mileage/travel stipends for long distances.

Requirements

1. Youth Group Management: Minimum 1 year of experience managing groups of 10+ elementary-aged kids simultaneously (e.g., classroom teacher, theater director, camp counselor, or youth coach).
2. Reliable Transportation: Valid driver's license, active auto insurance, and a personal vehicle with trunk space to haul equipment boxes.
3. Punctuality & Communication: Absolute reliability. You must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to event start times.
4. Background Check: Must be able to pass state and federal criminal background checks required for working in schools.
