Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient-centered care by providing direct patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic services, within a medical direction model. The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) practices in collaboration with and under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, while exercising clinical judgment and autonomy appropriate to the role.Job DutiesProvide patient care as directed within the medical direction model, including obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering medications, and administering drugsAssess, diagnose, and treat medical or surgical conditions; document findings accuratelyPerform, order, assist with, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testsPerform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, and wound careEducate and counsel patients regarding health, disease management, and treatment plansRespond to emergency medical situations and initiate appropriate interventionsCollaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to coordinate patient careAssist with ordering medications, maintaining records, and ensuring proper equipment functionFollow Mercy safety policies and report unsafe conditions or incidentsDepartment-Specific Duties (Medical Direction Model)Administer anesthesia under the medical direction of an anesthesiologistPerform pre-anesthesia evaluations and develop anesthesia care plans in collaboration with the anesthesiologistProvide intra-procedural anesthesia management and monitoringParticipate in post-anesthesia care and patient recoveryCommunicate effectively with the anesthesia care team to ensure compliance with medical direction requirementsDocument all anesthesia care accurately in the EMRAdhere to regulatory, hospital, and anesthesia department policiesParticipate in quality improvement and patient safety initiativesKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skills requiredProfessional Experience1–3 years of experience preferredEducationEducation sufficient to meet licensure requirementsLicensure, Certification, RegistrationActive license to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the state of Iowa requiredIowa Dependent Adult Abuse and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required prior to start or transfer dateACLS required within 6 months of start dateMercy is an independent, community-based organization supporting the Cedar Rapids area for over 120 years.Mercy is an equal-opportunity employer.
