Caf Cashier

The Operations Unit of the Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) is seeking a diverse pool of qualified applicants for the position of Caf Cashier within the Administrative Division. The LCB is a nonpartisan, legislative service agency that provides professional, technical and administrative support to the Nevada Legislature, which convenes biennially in odd-numbered years for 120-day sessions and for rare special sessions during the interim periods. The Operations Unit is responsible for managing and maintaining the physical infrastructure and operational services of the LCB. This is a temporary, full-time position located in Las Vegas, Nevada. This position has a maximum duration of 15 months, but may end sooner depending on the needs of the LCB and the Legislature.

Under the general supervision of the Food Service Deputy Administrator and Food Service Supervisor/Chef III, the Caf Cashier is responsible for delivering exceptional guest service at the front counter while also maintaining the caf's dining and refreshment areas. Responsibilities of the Caf Cashier may include, without limitation:

  • Engaging with guests in a friendly and professional manner while providing exceptional service and assistance to support a positive dining experience;
  • Processing orders and transactions accurately and efficiently, including, without limitation, handling cash, credit and debit cards and other payment methods;
  • Assisting guests with order fulfillment and pick-ups to ensure timely and accurate delivery of guest orders;
  • Collaborating with kitchen staff to ensure accuracy of order fulfillments and communicating necessary adjustments promptly;
  • Reviewing and processing online orders to maintain smooth and efficient service operations;
  • Addressing guest inquiries or concerns and resolving issues promptly to support customer satisfaction;
  • Monitoring inventory levels, restocking supplies and conducting regular stock checks to ensure availability of condiments, utensils and other dining essentials;
  • Maintaining cleanliness in dining and refreshment areas, including, without limitation, discarding trash, wiping down tables and counters and sweeping floors; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The Caf Cashier will be selected with special preference given to the candidate's training, experience and aptitude in the fields of food and beverage service. A qualified candidate must have: (1) a valid driver's license; (2) a high school diploma/GED; and (3) at least 6 months of previous experience in customer service and cash handling. Previous experience in a restaurant or dining establishment is preferred.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • The ability to operate a POS system and to accurately provide change to cash-paying customers;
  • Experience in food service, particularly in a cashiering and/or host position;
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Multitasking ability to handle multiple customer requests efficiently in a fast-paced environment;
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with kitchen staff and management;
  • Flexibility and adaptability to adjust to shift changes, peak hours and varying customer needs;
  • A friendly and welcoming demeanor to provide excellent customer service and enhance the guest experience;
  • Reliability and punctuality to ensure consistent staffing and smooth operations;
  • The ability to lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds, without assistance, employing proper safety techniques;
  • The capability to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing for extended periods, crouching, gripping, holding, pushing, pulling, bending and reaching overhead;
  • The ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships; and
  • The skill to resolve problems and maintain professionalism under deadlines and during critical projects.

The annual salary for this position is based on a Grade 25, which has a salary range of $42,636 to $61,721 under the employee/employer paid retirement option. An employer-paid contribution plan is also available with a reduced salary in lieu of an employee contribution. Actual starting salary will be based on experience.

The benefits include the accrual of paid annual leave and sick leave, health insurance and membership in the state's retirement plan. The work is performed in a fast-paced, dynamic and collaborative kitchen environment that operates within a professional setting, and includes interacting with legislators, legislative staff, other state employees and officials and visitors of the LCB. The working environment may involve exposure to equipment noise and varying temperatures. Overtime is required during legislative sessions and certain other periods as necessary to meet the demands of the Legislature. When overtime is worked, the Caf Cashier may earn compensatory time that can be taken at a later date or be paid for the overtime, consistent with the LCB Rules and Policies and subject to budgetary limits.
