The role of the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA is to establish and perform treatment programs for assigned residents.

Responsibilities include:

• Establishing and performing treatment programs for assigned residents.
• Upgrading goods as appropriate and physician order recommendations.
• Entering billing information in an accurate and timely manner.
• Reporting resident progress in meetings, i.e. Medicare A Meetings. Consulting with other members of rehabilitation team to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
• Providing residents with equipment as appropriate & informing Social Services of equipment needs at discharge. Requisitioning supplies and equipment.
• Designing and constructing special equipment for individuals and suggesting adaptation of individual's living environment.
• Laying out materials for individual's use and returning equipment to appropriate place.
• Conducting training programs for other workers/families in occupational therapy techniques and objectives for resident care.
• Charting notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the therapy provided to the residents as well as the resident's response to the therapy.
• Performing routine documentation as required and in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures. Signing and dating all entries made in resident's medical record.
• Following all facility policies and procedures.
• Performing other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements include:

• Training and licensure meeting the qualifications set forth by the NYS Board of Education and the NYS Rules and Regulation requirements.
• Graduate of an approved Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
• Training certification by the AOTCB and current licensure in good standing with the NYS Board of Education.
• One (1) year experience in the skilled nursing facility setting, preferred.
• Physical ability to perform job related duties, which may require lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, pulling and pushing up to 50lbs or more as needed.
• Ability to work well under pressure & willing to work harmoniously with all staff.
• Sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and handicapped.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to communicate well verbally with residents, families and staff.
• Treat residents and fellow staff with respect, dignity, and compassion.
• Covid-19 vaccinations are encouraged but NOT MANDATED; we continue to offer COVID-19 vaccination based on eligibility guidance from CDC.
