Job Title: Powder Coater Job Description

This role focuses on applying high-quality powder coatings to metal components on both manually operated paint lines and batch booth applications within a precision sheet metal manufacturing environment. You will prepare parts, operate coating and oven equipment, inspect finished products, and ensure all work meets production and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Apply powder coating to components on manually operated paint lines and in batch booth applications, following work order specifications and quality standards.

• Set up and adjust coating equipment, including spray guns and paint booths, to ensure proper application of powder coating.

• Clean, mask, plug, rack, and fixture components prior to powder coat application to ensure surfaces are prepared correctly.

• Guide and support coworkers in properly prepping parts, including masking, plugging, and racking, to maintain consistent quality.

• Operate batch ovens according to work order instructions, monitoring curing times and temperatures to achieve proper coating adhesion and finish.

• Inspect coated parts for coverage, finish quality, and defects, making adjustments or rework as needed to meet quality requirements.

• Unmask, unplug, and package coated components after finishing, ensuring parts are protected and ready for subsequent processes or shipment.

• Maintain coating equipment, spray guns, paint booths, and related tools, performing routine cleaning and minor maintenance to keep them in good working order.

• Keep the work area organized, clean, and safe, following facility safety procedures and best practices.

• Complete all required production and quality paperwork accurately and in a timely manner, including work orders and inspection records.

Essential Skills

• 1–3 years of manufacturing experience specifically related to painting or powder coating processes.

• Hands-on experience with powder coating applications, including use of spray guns and operation of paint booths.

• Industrial painting experience, preferably in a sheet metal or similar manufacturing environment.

• Ability to perform paint preparation tasks such as cleaning, masking, plugging, racking, and fixturing parts.

• Experience operating batch ovens and following work order specifications for curing and finishing.

• Strong attention to detail when inspecting coated parts for quality, coverage, and finish.

• Stable work history with a consistent employment record and demonstrated reliability.

• Positive attitude and ability to fit well within a collaborative, production-focused culture.

• Ability to perform somewhat physical work, including handling larger sheet metal parts in a warm environment.

• Capability to work assigned shifts and meet production deadlines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in industrial coating processes beyond powder coating is beneficial.

• Familiarity with precision metal fabrication environments and sheet metal products is an advantage.

• Comfort working with racking systems and various fixturing methods for different part sizes and shapes.

• Basic mechanical aptitude for routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

• Strong communication skills to coordinate with coworkers and support team-based workflows.

• Commitment to safety practices, including proper use of safety footwear and safety glasses.

• Willingness to learn and adapt to best-cost manufacturing practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large sheet metal manufacturing facility that produces a variety of precision metal products. The environment can be warm and somewhat physical due to the size and weight of the parts handled. Work is performed around paint lines, powder coating booths, batch ovens, and related industrial equipment. Team members work on either 1st shift (5:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) or 2nd shift (3:30 p.m.–2:00 a.m.), following structured production schedules. The facility promotes safe work practices, including the use of safety footwear and safety glasses, and emphasizes organized, clean work areas. The organization operates as a full-service metal manufacturer with capabilities ranging from prototyping to short- and long-run production, precision metal fabrication, precision machining, structural fabrication, and complete metal assembly services, providing exposure to a broad range of manufacturing processes and technologies.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spring Hill, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
