Travel Nursing Job Details

• Position: Travel Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)
• Healthcare Setting: Emergency Department / Emergency Room
• Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
• Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
• Start Date: November 16, 2026
• End Date: February 15, 2027
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 3 or 4 shifts per week; 12-hour night shifts, approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours
• Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and holidays during the contract may be required
• Call: Not required
• Orientation: Approximately 36 hours
• Patient Ratios: Typically 1:4; ratios may increase to 1:6 for medical-surgical hold patients. Stroke, STEMI, and cardiac arrest patients may be assigned 1:1.

Emergency Department RN Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of recent Emergency Department or Emergency Room RN experience
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Active Virginia RN license or compact RN license in hand at the time of application
• Proficiency with Epic electronic medical records (EMR)
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications through the American Heart Association
• Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and TNCC certifications
• Strong experience with emergency, trauma, cardiac, stroke, and critical-care presentations
• Must be willing to complete required pre-start modules and Emergency Department EKG testing; a score of at least 80% is required
• Travel assignment eligibility requires a permanent residence at least 50 miles from the assignment location
• Requested time off must be provided with the application and is subject to approval

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
• Perform rapid assessment, triage, prioritization, reassessment, and stabilization of patients with a wide range of medical and traumatic conditions
• Care for patients presenting with STEMI, stroke, chest pain, altered mental status, syncope, respiratory distress, cardiac arrest, trauma, COPD, CHF, asthma, sickle cell disease, and glucose abnormalities
• Administer medications, blood products, IV therapies, vasopressors, and continuous sedation according to established protocols
• Monitor and manage patients requiring ventilatory support, BiPAP/CPAP, arterial lines, central lines, and advanced emergency interventions
• Perform and interpret cardiac rhythms and EKG findings, including recognition of dysrhythmias and life-threatening rhythms
• Support procedural sedation, rapid infuser use, resuscitation efforts, and other high-acuity emergency procedures
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, phlebotomy, IV teams, rapid response personnel, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Provide care in split-flow and vertical-care areas while maintaining accurate documentation in Epic
• Participate in required weekend and holiday coverage and support patient flow throughout the Emergency Department
