Supervising Physician UCHC NJSP

Position Overview University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Supervising Physician for New Jersey State Prison, located in Trenton, NJ. The Supervising Physician is responsible for providing medical services to inmates of the Department of Corrections, consistent with community Standards of Care, and for providing clinical supervision to assigned physicians and medical nurse practitioners. The role includes liaison work with external providers and on‑call services. Duties Provide clinical and professional supervision, management, and monitoring of physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants assigned to the State Prison. Oversee clinical work through regular peer reviews of documentation, medication usage, and consult request patterns. Host quarterly meetings to review continuous quality improvement issues, policies, and problems. Participate in annual performance evaluations of physicians and nurse practitioners. Work with the Medical Director and regional nurse managers to develop and maintain appropriate medical services for the prison. Assist in the development and implementation of UCHC policies and procedures, including participation in the continuous quality improvement program and preparation for health‑care reviews such as National Commission of Correctional Health‑Care inspections. Perform routine administrative functions, including maintaining the monthly provider clinic schedule, approving time‑off requests, reviewing timesheets, and ensuring adherence to time and attendance policies. Ensure physicians and nurse practitioners adhere to Rutgers, UCHC, and NJDOC conduct and policies, and document progressive discipline in collaboration with the Medical Director. Qualifications Licensed physician in the State of New Jersey; current DEA registration, CDS, and CPR certifications. Board Certified and qualified by state laws/regulations to practice medicine. Experience in a primary care specialty. Valid driver’s license; possesses own vehicle or alternative transportation between sites. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present information to diverse audiences. Salary Minimum Salary: $33,235.00; Mid‑Range Salary: $227,332.00; Maximum Salary: $421,428.00. Employment Status Full‑time, 40‑hour week, on‑site work arrangement.
