Metallurgist Position at FerroWorks
FerroWorks, with locations in Pittsburgh, McKees Rocks, and Kutztown, PA including McConway and Torley and Standard Forged, has been in continuous operations since 1869, the same year the first US transcontinental railroad was completed. As McConway is the original designers of the first standard automatic coupler, continued innovation and craftsmanship have led to a product line that includes every AAR approved coupler as well as custom coupler solutions, which are all proudly cast in the US.
We are actively seeking a Metallurgist with deep knowledge in Steel Castings and Forgings to support our continued growth at McConway and Torley in Lawrenceville! In this position, you will provide your expertise in the areas of metallurgy and be a key member of our engineering and melt teams. Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Defining metallurgical requirements and ensure compliance with AAR and key customer requirements
- Analyzing mechanical, chemical, and metallurgical test data
- Providing technical leadership for welding metallurgy
- Leading root cause investigations and drive corrective actions for quality and production issues
- Supporting customer technical reviews, audits, and code interpretation discussions
- Coaching and Developing junior technical staff
Required Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of professional metallurgy experience, with at least some focus in steel castings
Preferred Qualifications:
- NDT, ASNT or CWI Experience or Certifications are a plus
- Proven Problem Solving skills
- Excellent customer facing communication skills
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field is required
- Equivalent Combination of education and experience may be considered
Work Environment:
- Work in office setting and with the plant
- Ability to tolerate both high and low temperatures, loud noises typical of a manufacturing plant
