Punch Press Operator

The Punch Press Operator sets up and operates punch press equipment to produce parts that meet precise customer specifications. This role follows detailed work instructions, reads and interprets blueprints and routers, performs dimensional and visual inspections, and carries out preventative maintenance on assigned presses. The operator maintains a clean, organized work area and supports continuous improvement in a busy manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Lubricate machine parts in accordance with established work instructions to ensure proper operation and equipment longevity.
• Operate punch press equipment to perform required forming, cutting, or shaping operations according to production needs.
• Read and interpret routers, blueprints, and sketches to determine dimensional specifications, tolerances, and operating requirements for each job.
• Dimensionally and visually inspect parts produced to verify they meet customer and quality requirements.
• Perform required preventative maintenance procedures on assigned presses within specified time frames.
• Ensure all preventative maintenance activities in the department are completed in accordance with the preventive maintenance schedule.
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe at all times by following 5S methods and housekeeping standards.
• Follow all safety guidelines and use appropriate personal protective equipment while operating machinery and handling materials.
• Communicate any equipment issues, quality concerns, or production delays to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
• Support general labor and machine setup activities as needed to meet production schedules.
• Participate in on-the-job training to continually improve skills related to punch press operation and other assigned duties.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support production, maintenance, and overall shop operations.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.
• 0–2 years of demonstrated experience for Level 1 Punch Press Operator, 2–5 years of demonstrated experience for Level 2 Punch Press Operator, and 5 or more years of demonstrated experience for Level 3 Punch Press Operator.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Experience operating punch presses or similar production machinery in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to perform dimensional and visual inspections of parts to verify conformance to specifications.
• Capability to follow written work instructions, routers, blueprints, and sketches accurately.
• Ability to perform preventative maintenance tasks on production equipment within specified time frames.
• Physical ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that involve walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality and safety standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Vocational training in manufacturing, machine operation, or related fields is preferred.
• Forklift operator certification is preferred.
• Ability to drive and operate a forklift safely in a manufacturing shop.
• Familiarity with punch press, press brake, and other machine operating tasks.
• Experience with machine setup activities in a production environment.
• Comfort working with general labor tasks in support of production.
• Willingness to participate in continuous on-the-job training to improve job-related skills.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing shop environment and operates on a first shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The role involves regular talking, hearing, and use of hands to finger, handle, or feel, as well as frequent reaching with hands and arms, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. The work area may occasionally expose employees to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals, with the noise level typically at a moderate level. The role includes operating punch press equipment and may involve driving and operating a forklift, with ongoing, continuous training provided to improve skills related to job duties. A clean, organized workspace is maintained through adherence to 5S methods and established safety and housekeeping standards.

This is a Permanent position based out of Phoenix, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $54080.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
