Job Description

This role focuses on electrical installation, wiring, and cable work for naval ships, submarines, and other vessels. You will install and terminate power, signal (copper and fiber), and RF cabling, assemble and test cable kits, and ensure high-quality, reliable electrical systems in a shipyard environment. The position requires hands-on work with a variety of connectors and wiring configurations while following technical drawings and strict safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Install, route, and secure power, signal (copper and fiber), and RF cabling on naval ships, submarines, and other vessels.
• Work with cable tags, wire markers, and label plates to clearly identify and document all cables and connections.
• Assemble cable kits, including cutting, routing, bundling, and preparing cables for installation.
• Pin multi-pin, fiber optic, RF, telecom, and other types of connectors according to specifications and technical documentation.
• Terminate wires and cables accurately to ensure proper electrical continuity and system performance.
• Build wiring harnesses and conduit runs, ensuring neat, organized, and compliant installations.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to perform electrical installations and modifications.
• Assist with troubleshooting electrical systems, wiring, and connections to identify and resolve issues.
• Perform routine clean-up of the work site to maintain a safe and organized work area.
• Collaborate with other technicians and trades to coordinate installation activities on ships and submarines.
• Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) based on work location.
• Support travel assignments to other shipyards as needed to complete project work.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with power, signal (copper and fiber), and RF cabling.
• Ability to work with multi-pin, fiber optic, RF, telecom, and other types of connectors.
• Proficiency in terminating wires and cables to meet technical and quality standards.
• Experience pulling wire and building electrical harnesses in industrial or marine environments.
• Knowledge of electrical installation practices for submarines, ships, or other vessels.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience with conduit installation, wiring layout, and cable routing.
• Basic troubleshooting skills for electrical and electronic systems.
• Education and specialized training such as an apprenticeship, or an associate degree in engineering or a related field with two (2) years of experience, or a trade school certificate with two (2) years of experience, or four (4) years of relevant experience.
• Experience working directly on naval ships, submarines, or other ships.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and use PPE appropriately.
• Capability to work varying shifts and overtime as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in wiring and electronics for submarines, ships, or other marine vessels.
• Familiarity with shipyard environments and naval standards.
• Experience working as an electrical technician in industrial, defense, or marine settings.
• Comfort working with RF, fiber optic, and telecom systems.
• Strong attention to detail when labeling, tagging, and documenting cables and connectors.
• Willingness to travel to other shipyards as project needs arise.
• Interest in specialized training and ongoing professional development in the electrical and marine fields.
• Motivation to advance into higher-level technical or leadership roles over time.

Work Environment

You will primarily work at a major shipyard location, with time spent between the main office and various shipboard and industrial areas. The role involves travel to other shipyards as needed to support project work. The standard shift is mostly first shift, typically from 0600 to 1430, with the possibility of working off-shifts based on project requirements. You can expect a workweek of approximately 40 to 60 hours, including overtime when requested. The environment is industrial and maritime, requiring adherence to strict safety practices and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) based on the specific work location and task. Work may involve climbing, working in confined spaces, and operating in active shipyard conditions where coordination with other trades and teams is essential.

This is a Contract position based out of Portsmouth, NH.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.
