Job Title: RN II - Labor and Delivery Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 8 Weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: Not specified Experience: Two years of Labor & Delivery experience required License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course required Must-Have: Current Epic experience Description: The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for planning and providing nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, including emergency situations and circulating for C-Sections. This role supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel as appropriate. The nurse performs physical and psychosocial assessments of patients, demonstrating knowledge and consideration of age and cultural differences. A multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan is initiated for each patient in collaboration with healthcare team members. The nurse manages perinatal emergencies, including crash C-sections, precipitous deliveries, and shoulder dystocia. Competency in assessing fetal and maternal well-being, amniotic fluid status, and vaginal bleeding is expected. The nurse effectively manages pain control for laboring patients and implements alternative pain control methods as appropriate. Assistance with epidural catheter placement is provided, along with monitoring fetal and maternal status during and after the procedure. Patient and family education is conducted at all stages of the perinatal and postpartum periods, using methods suitable for the patient's age, condition, culture, and learning readiness. Accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care, including evaluations of patients’ responses to medications, treatments, and procedures, is required. The nurse performs necessary unit-specific safety and quality control checks. Additional job-related duties may be assigned as needed. All associates must receive required vaccinations as a condition of employment.
