Medical Assistant

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Job Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking a qualified Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support in a primary care setting. The Medical Assistant will work closely with providers and the healthcare team to ensure efficient patient care, accurate documentation, and smooth daily clinic operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and clinical staff.

• Obtain and document patient vital signs and other clinical information.

• Assist providers with examinations and in-office procedures.

• Perform point-of-care testing, including urine pregnancy tests, urine dipsticks, rapid strep tests, fecal occult blood testing, HIV screening, lead testing, and other laboratory tests.

• Perform phlebotomy and administer immunizations and injections as authorized.

• Provide appropriate patient education and instructions.

• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA requirements.

• Perform telephone triage and respond appropriately to patient inquiries.

• Assist with quality assurance, quality control, inventory management, and clinical supply maintenance.

• Sterilize and clean medical instruments according to established procedures.

• Maintain compliance with OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and other applicable healthcare standards.

• Properly document vaccinations in the appropriate immunization registry and electronic health record.

• Monitor and document vaccine refrigerator temperatures twice daily.

• Maintain clean, organized exam rooms and work areas.

• Operate computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, and other office equipment as required.

• Work effectively with a diverse patient population.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program, including phlebotomy and injection training.

• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience required.

• Experience in a primary care environment preferred.

• Knowledge of medical practices, procedures, and clinical protocols.

• Demonstrated experience providing direct patient care, including phlebotomy.

• Ability to properly use medical equipment and clinical technology.

• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, reach, and use hands to operate medical equipment and office tools.

• Ability to frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds.

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.

• Requires adequate close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision.

• Position may involve exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens, hazardous materials, repetitive motions, eyestrain, and workplace stress.
