Instrumentation and Controls Designer

Job Description

We’re hiring an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Designer to support large-scale industrial and manufacturing projects from concept through construction.

This role owns the drawings, models, and panel packages used by construction teams. You’ll work across I&C design, 3D coordination, panel layouts, and field installation.

This is a hands-on design role for someone comfortable working in both a design environment and an active industrial construction site.

What You’ll Do

Produce I&C construction deliverables, including instrument location plans, loop diagrams, hook-up details, I/O lists, instrument indexes, and cable schedules
Design control panels, RIO and marshalling cabinets, enclosure layouts, and wiring using EPLAN Electric P8 and/or Pro Panel
Model instrumentation, junction boxes, instrument stands, control panels, and related equipment in Revit
Produce detailed 2D construction drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit
Manage I&C models and CAD files in BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud
Identify and resolve clashes with process, piping, electrical, and structural designs
Coordinate I&C designs with P&IDs and multidisciplinary engineering teams
Support RFIs, submittals, redlines, and as-built documentation
Perform regular field walks and verify installations against design documents
Support drawing packages, bills of material, construction planning, and constructability reviews

This position focuses on I&C design and drafting. PLC/DCS programming and stamped engineering are not primary responsibilities.

What We’re Looking For

Proficiency with EPLAN for I&C panel layouts and wiring
Experience with EPLAN Electric P8 and/or Pro Panel
Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs
Experience producing industrial instrumentation deliverables
Familiarity with temperature, flow, level, and pressure instrumentation
Experience coordinating with process, electrical, piping, and structural teams
Working knowledge of the NEC
Comfortable performing field walks and construction coordination
Experience supporting redlines and field-driven design updates
3+ years of relevant I&C design experience with a design or drafting degree/certificate
6+ years of relevant experience without a related degree or certificate

Preferred Qualifications

Heavy industrial, process, or manufacturing facility experience
Navisworks, Revizto, and/or Bluebeam
ISA-5.1 / ISA-5.4
UL 508A panel construction knowledge
DeltaV RIO / CHARM or similar DCS cabinet experience
NEC 500 / 505 hazardous-area installation experience
SmartPlant Instrumentation / SPI or similar instrument database experience
Experience supporting construction and commissioning activities
