Ultrasound TechnologistThe Ultrasound Technologist is fully competent to perform all diagnostic procedures for the Diagnosis of specific diseases or conditions.Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:Competent in the technical operations of all equipment in this sectionAssess patients, review orders/chart as appropriate confirming reason for examEnsure pertinent patient symptoms and clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present if neededPrepare patients for procedure, answer any questions and effectively communicate with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/or questions regarding exam protocolResponsible for prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by the radiologistProvide safe environment to include infection control guidelines, universal precautions and patient safety goalsMonitor the timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals, striving for continuous quality improvementPerform QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality) prior to sending to radiologist for interpretationParticipate in the clinical education of student sonographersParticipate in department's Performance Improvement ProjectsOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsEducation and Formal Training:High school diploma or equivalent requiredGraduate of AMA approved Sonography program requiredARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer(RDMS) preferredNew graduates who are registry eligible must be registered by either ARDMS or ARRT (Sonography) within 12 months of hire date requiredCurrent AHA CPR certification requiredWork Experience:1 year experience preferredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English languageTechnical skills and expertise in performing diagnostic and vascular sonographyPositive interpersonal skillsVerbal and written skillsCompassionate patient careKnowledge of growth and development and understands range of treatment needed for all age groupsAbility to provide care based on the patient's developmental needsEffective patient care and interacts effectively with patients of all agesPhysical Requirements:Ability to communicate orallyDexterity and visual acuityMobility to assume awkward positions and respond to emergency situationsAbility to stand for long periods of timeAbility to bend lift up to 100 pounds, carry objects up to 50 poundsPosition may involve skin, eye, or mucous membrane contact with blood or other potentially infectious materialRequired Licenses and CertificationsARRT - American Registry Of Radiologic TechnologistsCape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity
