POSITION SUMMARY The Clinical Skills Program Lead (CSPL), supports the professional growth of the organ operations team. In collaboration with the Clinical Skills Trainers and Director of Clinical Skills & Practices, this role designs and oversees Clinical Skills and Practices (CSP) programs and operations and participates in delivering and evaluating learner-centered and performancebased curricula. The CSPL participates in leading train-the-trainer and mentorship programs, coordinates training, and fosters continuous improvement while ensuring programs and team operations meet industry and organizational quality requirements and best practices. This role participates as a change agent for the organization, identifying and responding to opportunities to improve individual and organizational performance as well as effectiveness of Clinical Skills and Practices programs and operations. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification. Program Management Oversees, participates in, and assists team leaders with scheduling clinical staff training, development, coaching, counseling, appraisal, recognition, and career development and advancement. Supports team leadership to provide input and assistance with corrective improvement actions such as Focused or Formal Learning or improvement associated with corrective action issuance or performance improvement plans.In conjunction with the department leadership team, may be asked to assist with clinical candidate sourcing and interviewing. Activates the DNWest Quality Systems occurrence reporting system and completes follow up with direct reports and leadership as assigned.Works with the Clinical Skills Trainers and other DNWest educators in identifying, developing, implementing, and updating DNWest, guidelines, and job aids. Ensures compliance with established quality assurance standards as well as local, state, and federal regulations relating to organ procurement to demonstrate commitment to quality.Participates in departmental and organizational strategic planning focused on meeting goals and key performance measures.Supports the oversight and management of the Sim Lab, vendor management, asset oversight, and clinical supplies inventory oversight.Attends meetings and events as requested and assigned.Works with other members of the management team to attain DNWest’s organizational goals and performance metrics. Familiar with all aspects of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services benchmarking and speaks to continued improvement to meet measures.Manages a portfolio of curriculum development and training programs and projects, and monitors team resources.Coordinates with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and educators to strategize and manage the design and delivery of multiple curriculum development projects. Implements the need for program evaluation plans and reports objectives and key results.Identifies program risks and escalates for solutions in a timely and clear fashion.Training Design and Management Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Skills and Practices and in coordination with the CSTs and other DNWest educational staff, oversees the development and implementation of individual and group clinical training programs. Helps with ongoing assessments of clinical staff performance as well as with assessments of training effectiveness Establishes, administers, delivers, and evaluates learner-centered and performance-based curricula, instructional content, and competency assessments. Provides didactic, in-person training and skills and competency assessments, both for new and established clinical staff. Acts as a resource and coach, role modeling best practices and using all available resources.Carries out routine and ad hoc check-ins with new and existing clinical staff, develops training plans or roadmaps, and acts as an ongoing resource for clinical staff during and after the orientation process.Developments and implements hands-on simulation training in collaboration with the other CSP staff. Participates in, develops, facilitates, and leads various education and development programs (i.e.: Clinical Residency, Clinical Workshops, etc.). Analyzes learning needs by consulting with leadership, managers, and other stakeholders to identify performance gaps, goals, and success indicators.Oversees the development and training of clinical preceptor training and of the staff precepting; oversees activities of preceptors monitoring to ensure compliance with training processes and procedures.Assesses organizational factors that may address performance gaps or impact training outcomes and makes recommendations to stakeholders. Designs learning solutions and proposes effective strategies to stakeholders.Works with Clinical Skills Trainers to define and document learning objectives and research content.Develops presentations, facilitator guides, participant guides, web-based training, job aids, assessments, and other performance support tools. Develops learning solutions that blend web-based training, instructor-led training and didactics, on-the-job experience and training, and third-party training.Works with Clinical Skills Trainers and learners to develop and pilot test material before implementing training. Collaborates with department leadership, Clinical Skills Trainers, preceptors, and educators for routine debriefing and feedback during staff on-boarding and as needed to identify strengths/weaknesses, review achievement/non-achievement of training objectives, identify future training goals and appropriately document clinical staff member’s case experiences.Updates curricula and competency assessments according to changes in practice, performance needs, effectiveness, and course maintenance schedules.Ensures regulatory compliance with work product.Develops, integrates, and maintains simulation-based training programs for continued development of staff.Establishes, administers, delivers, and evaluates learner-centered and performance-based curricula, instructional content, and competency assessments. Training Delivery and Preceptor Oversight Delivers instructor-led training in person and through technology such as web-based conferencing and interactive applications.Participates in leading the train-the-trainer, preceptor, and mentorship programs.Provides training and performance oversight and guidance to preceptors.Ensures preceptors are effective in their roles (e.g. consistent and accurate content as well as ability to transfer knowledge and skills).Manages the training and competency assessment activity of preceptors.Onboards new employees to their roles by providing ongoing assessment of their growth, development, and readiness. Collaborates with managers of trainees during orientation and onboarding to ensure training needs of individual staff are met.Partners with delivery teams to ensure successful transition of curriculum and transfer of learning from development to implementation. Partners with preceptors, Clinical Skills Trainer, leadership to go “on-site” to observe staff skill development, coach, and identify opportunities for improvement. Coordinates, schedules, and tracks orientation, training, and competency assessments. Meets with new clinical staff to explain the clinical orientation process and be a clinical resource to support and mentor them. Collaborates with Learning & Development to ensure appropriate LMS content is assigned to staff along with document training, competencies, tracking compliance, and maintaining records. Performance Improvement Keeps current with industry and federal regulations pertaining to the donation industry.Coordinates with Learning & Development and the Quality departments on requirements and updates.Fosters continuous improvement and ensuring operations and performance meet quality standards. Participates in work reviews to identify opportunities for improvement.Represents DNWest nationally within the organ procurement organization communities (committees, presentations, abstracts, etc.).Collaborates with stakeholders to determine best practices.Identifies and acts on opportunities to improve individual and organizational performance. Evaluates the impact of practice changes on learner performance to assure effectiveness.Maintains clinical skills and knowledge by going onsite a minimum of 4 times a year to observe cases. (e.g., on-site donor evaluation, donor management, recovery). QUALIFICATIONS Excellent communication, organization, meeting management and presentation skills; this includes both written and spoken communications with team members, donation partners, peers, and senior management.Excellent conflict resolution, group interaction, and team building skillsExcellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Strong knowledge of referral management, patient assessment, clinical management, organ allocation, and the overall donation process.Consultative approach to finding solutions. Proficient in recommending, following, and adapting best practices to optimize project outcomes for stakeholders.Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal instruction or supervision.Ability to multi-task and rapidly adapt to changing priorities while meeting deadlines.High level of ethical practices and ability to maintain sensitive information confidential.Experience leading operational and administrative functions and programs. Project management skills and abilities, or willingness and aptitude to learn how to project manage small to mid-sized projects.Current knowledge of or wiliness to learn and apply basics of adult learning theory.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree required; degree in registered nursing, biological sciences, health care adult learning or similar area of study preferred.Extensive work experience in clinical training and education program delivery, or experience as a clinical lead or supervisor, particularly work experience in an OPO or on a critical care team or similar environment may be considered in lieu of a degree.Minimum of 2 years of direct work experience in an organ and tissue procurement organization or an allied health organization preferred.Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) preferred.Software skills/experience:Intermediate to advanced skill in MicroSoft suite of applications. Intermediate to advanced skill in Zoom. Ability to travel regionally and nationally.Ability to travel within DNWest’s service area by car, maintaining a valid driver’s license in good standing and current vehicle insurance based on applicable state minimum insurance coverage standards.
