About the Position

Job Title: Certified Surgical Technologist Profession: Technician Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Previous operating room experience preferred License: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certifications: BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross) Must-Have: Strong knowledge of sterile techniques and infection control policies Description: Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique. Maintains asepsis and anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed. Actively participates in patient care and safety. Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff. Follows infection control policies and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique. Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively. Assists the surgeon when needed with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments and other related items during the procedure. Anticipates the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment. Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping instruments clean and in their proper place. Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count. Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifying conflicts or problems. Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case. Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient by identifying potential hazards. Collaborates with the surgical team and assists the RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment. Displays knowledge of potential hazards, including equipment, chemicals, or gases within the operating room. Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource and acts as a resource for new personnel. Assists in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the direction of the surgeon. Handles and identifies specimens in accordance with policy. Expedites the effective and efficient turnover of the OR between cases. Takes rotating call duty. Will perform additional responsibilities as requested.
