Job Title: Wastewater Treatment Operator Job Description
The Wastewater Treatment Operator safely and efficiently treats industrial wastewater, removes solid waste from the process, and ensures that only clean, compliant water is discharged to the sewer. This role manages the decanting and disposal of dewatered solids, maintains the cleanliness and organization of the wastewater treatment area, and oversees inventory of raw materials used in the process. The operator also supports regulatory compliance by interacting with county inspectors, maintaining sample chain-of-custody, and completing required environmental reports.
Responsibilities
Operate and monitor wastewater treatment systems to properly treat industrial wastewater and ensure effluent meets regulatory and internal standards.
Remove solid waste from the end of the treatment process and manage the decanting of clean water to the sewer in a safe and compliant manner.
Handle, manage, and dispose of dewatered solids in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures.
Clean and maintain the wastewater treatment area, including equipment, floors, and surrounding workspaces, to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
Manage and track inventory of raw materials used in the wastewater treatment process, including ordering or requesting replenishment as needed.
Perform routine maintenance tasks within the wastewater department to keep systems and equipment in good working condition.
Interact with county officials and inspectors during inspections, providing accurate information and supporting documentation as needed.
Maintain a clear and accurate chain of custody for all samples tested, ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and secure handling.
Prepare and complete monthly, quarterly, and yearly wastewater and environmental reports with accurate data and documentation.
Submit required reports to internal leadership, including the VP of EHS and PPM Management, as well as to county authorities when required.
Collaborate with internal teams to support continuous improvement of wastewater treatment processes and compliance practices.
Essential Skills
Active Industrial Wastewater Treatment license issued by the State of Georgia.
Demonstrated experience in wastewater treatment operations within an industrial environment.
Mechanical aptitude to operate, monitor, and perform basic maintenance on wastewater treatment equipment.
Ability to accurately maintain sample chain-of-custody records and related documentation.
Capability to prepare, organize, and submit monthly, quarterly, and yearly regulatory and internal reports.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance and safety.
Effective communication skills to interact with county inspectors and internal stakeholders.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with environmental health and safety (EHS) teams or leadership.
Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements for industrial wastewater systems.
Organizational skills to manage inventory of raw materials and maintain orderly records.
Ability to work independently while following established procedures and guidelines.

Work Environment
This role is based in an industrial facility within the wastewater treatment department. You will work around wastewater treatment systems, mechanical equipment, and dewatering processes, often in wet or damp conditions. Standard industrial safety practices apply, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment as required by site procedures. Work hours typically follow a regular schedule, but may occasionally require flexibility to support inspections, reporting deadlines, or operational needs.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.88 - $27.88/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
