Controls Programmer

A technology automation company in Sterling, Virginia is seeking a Controls Programmer to develop, configure, and support building automation and industrial control systems. This role focuses on converting sequences of operation into reliable control logic, graphics, alarms, and trends while supporting commissioning activities and system performance.

About the Opportunity:

Schedule: Monday-Friday
Hours: Standard business
Setting: Onsite

Responsibilities:

Develop and implement DDC and/or PLC control logic using approved programming standards and naming conventions.
Configure point databases, alarming, trending, scheduling, and operator graphics/HMI interfaces.
Support commissioning activities by debugging programs, validating system performance, and assisting with functional testing.
Troubleshoot programming and communication issues using live values, trend logs, packet captures, and diagnostic tools.
Document programming revisions, network settings, configuration backups, and system updates.

Qualifications:

2-4 years of controls programming experience supporting building automation or industrial control systems.
Experience programming DDC and/or PLC control systems.
Working knowledge of BMS, EPMS, and/or SCADA platforms.
Experience with BACnet, Modbus, IP networking, and serial communications.
Ability to troubleshoot programming and communication issues using trends, logs, and diagnostic tools.
Familiarity with HMI development, alarming, trending, and point database configuration.
Strong documentation, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Desired Skills:

Niagara Technical Certification or current equivalent.
Ignition Core Certification or equivalent.
Rockwell Studio 5000 Fundamentals or equivalent.
Experience creating reusable programming templates, libraries, UDTs/UDFs, or standardized code modules.
Experience developing commissioning documentation and supporting FAT/SAT execution.
