Food Service Worker

The Food Service Worker is responsible for assisting with the daily operation of the university's dining and food service facilities. This position provides friendly and efficient service to students, faculty, staff, and guests while maintaining high standards for food quality, cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare, portion, and serve food and beverages according to established recipes and service standards.
• Assist with food preparation, including washing, cutting, measuring, and assembling ingredients.
• Operate food service equipment safely and properly after receiving appropriate training.
• Serve students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
• Maintain clean and sanitary food preparation, serving, dining, and work areas.
• Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, trays, and other food service equipment.
• Restock food, beverages, utensils, condiments, and other supplies as needed.
• Monitor food levels and notify supervisors when additional food or supplies are needed.
• Follow proper food handling, storage, temperature control, and sanitation procedures.
• Follow all university, health department, and food safety regulations.
• Assist with opening and closing duties, including cleaning and securing the work area.
• Dispose of trash and recycling properly.
• Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing food and supplies.
• Provide excellent customer service and respond appropriately to questions or concerns.
• Work cooperatively with other food service employees and university staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

• Previous food service, restaurant, cafeteria, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull food service supplies and equipment as required.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Must be willing to follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.

Work Environment:

This position may require working in a commercial kitchen, dining hall, cafeteria, serving line, or other university food service facility. Employees may be exposed to hot and cold temperatures, steam, cleaning chemicals, wet floors, and kitchen equipment. Proper personal protective equipment and training will be provided as required.

Schedule: May include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts based on the university's dining schedule.
