Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Psychiatric Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 34.5 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 1 year of psychiatric experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS ACLS PALS One of the following certifications: Handle with Care, TRUST Training, CPI - Crisis Prevention Institute, PMCS - Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations, or MOAB Must-Have: 1 year of psychiatric experience Prefer some medical experience in areas such as Medical Surgical, Telemetry, PCU, or ICU De-escalation experience and restraint use Description: This position is located in an adolescent psychiatric unit. The facility is a 40-bed unit divided into sections for adult and child/adolescent patients. RNs will typically work in both areas. There is a triage section designated for fast-tracking patients. The facility has in-house security available 24/7. On average, the emergency department treats 15-45 patients per day. Nurse-to-patient ratios vary from 1:6 to 1:12, depending on patient acuity. Typical staffing includes 2 triage RNs, 4 RNs designated to adults, 1 RN designated to pediatrics/adolescents, and 1 charge nurse. Travelers typically do not take charge assignments. PCTs are present for various duties including phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, patient transport, and assisting nurses and physicians. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 in the emergency department. RNs must be able to identify major and life-threatening rhythms. Portable cardiac monitoring is rare; however, tele monitoring is available during code situations. X-ray and CT services are accessible in the main emergency room. PCTs perform blood draws. Scheduling will be based on unit needs without block scheduling. Every other weekend may be required, as well as potential holiday rotation. Travelers may be required to float to any adolescent or adult psychiatric unit. The dress code is royal blue. Candidates should possess patience and compassion for the patient population. It is important to recognize crises early, as early intervention can be key.
