Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN with a CA license, requiring strong ER travel experience and EPIC proficiency for a Level 2 trauma center.

Details

• Level 2 trauma emergency department with 44 beds and average daily census of 190-200 patients
• Fast-paced environment with high patient turnover and occasional inpatient boarding
• Patient population includes STEMI, stroke, syncope, weakness, trauma, and falls with a high elderly demographic
• Travelers triage ambulance patients at the bedside
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
• Supported by 2-5 ER Techs per shift depending on time of day, plus Physician Assistants
• Respiratory Therapy manages all ventilators, breathing treatments, and ABGs, available 24/7
• Anesthesia available 24/7 for support
• Lines team available for advanced lines; phlebotomy available 24/7 though RNs draw blood with IV starts as needed
• Case managers and social workers available most days from 07:00-23:00
• 12-hour rotating shifts (evening/night) covering 1p-1a, 3p-3a, 5p-5a, and 7p-7a, working all shift variations
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• No call requirements
• No floating or charge nurse responsibilities required
• Documentation via EPIC and medication management via Pyxis

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, PALS (AHA only) or ENPC, and NIHSS certifications required
• CEN and TNCC certifications strongly preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent clinical experience required, with 3-5 years preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ER specialty experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required, with preference for 1-2 previous travel assignments unless candidate has significant ER experience
• Trauma and pediatric experience strongly preferred
• EPIC experience required, with work history documenting EPIC use
• Strong ER experience with superior references required

Additional Information

• Must reside within a 50 mile radius of the facility
• Nurses must be able to critically think and manage a fast-paced environment
• Patient population is generally well-educated and vocal about care quality, with nursing excellence and patient experience as major focuses
• Good teamwork and positive attitude required
• Orientation includes 2 ED shifts (24 hours total) plus 1 shift with an Educator (4-6 hours)
• One major holiday coverage required with no approval for holiday time off requests
• Scrubs of any color permitted, no denim, professional appearance required
• Non-skid, closed-toe shoes required; athletic shoes acceptable, clogs must have heel strap
• Minimal, professional jewelry with no facial piercings other than ears
• Hair must be pulled back if shoulder length or longer; facial hair must be neat and trimmed
• No gel or acrylic nail polish; nail polish must be free of chips or cracks
