Postdoctoral Research Associate - Urologic Surgery

Position Summary There is an opening for a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Kiran Mahajan. The Mahajan lab studies signaling mechanisms in immune regulation and their role in the tumor microenvironment of prostate cancer, as well as epigenetic processes (histone phosphorylation, methylation, and acetylation) that drive these diseases and influence immune modulation. The lab also has a robust program in developing small molecule inhibitors as potential therapeutics for these cancers. Previous work has identified multiple new signaling events that play a crucial role in various malignancies and cellular homeostasis (Cancer Cell, 2017; Clinical Cancer Research 2022; Journal of Nuclear Medicine 2024). Project Focus Drug development The study of cancer immunology using genetically engineered mouse models Molecular analysis of epigenetic crosstalk Effects of epigenetic events on tumor immune response Investigation of these studies involves state‑of‑the‑art mouse genetics, functional genomics, next‑generation sequencing, bioinformatics, molecular biology, tumor biology, and hematopoiesis. Responsibilities Assist with grant preparation and reporting. Prepare and submit manuscripts on research. Assist in designing research experiments. Evaluate research findings and aid in reporting results. Conscientiously discharge research responsibilities. Maintain conformity with ethical standards in research. Maintain compliance with Good Laboratory Practice and adequate records. Engage in open and timely discussion with the mentor regarding materials, reagents, and records of the laboratory, and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques. Show collegial conduct toward co‑trainees, staff, and group members. Adhere to all applicable University policies, procedures, and regulations. All data, research records, and materials generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University. Working Conditions This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals. Salary Base pay is commensurate with experience. More About This Job Postdoctoral appointments at WashU have a five‑year term limit that includes prior experience.
