Medical Director & Associate Veterinarian – Long Beach, CA Location: Long Beach, California, USA Job Type: Full-time Level: Experienced Veterinarian / Medical Director Relocation Package: Available, up to $125,000 Signing & Retention Incentives: Available We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an exciting Medical Director & Associate Veterinarian opportunity in Long Beach, California . This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced veterinarian seeking a senior clinical leadership role, as well as for an Associate Veterinarian looking to take the next step in their veterinary career. The successful candidate will join an established, collaborative veterinary team providing high-quality small animal veterinary care to pets and their owners across Long Beach and the surrounding Southern California area. For the right veterinarian, there is a significant Medical Director leadership opportunity , offering increased compensation, production incentives and a monthly leadership stipend. If you are an experienced DVM or VMD veterinarian in Long Beach, Los Angeles County, Orange County or Southern California and are looking for a veterinary leadership position with excellent earning potential, career development and professional support, this role could be an excellent fit. The Medical Director package offers a competitive salary range of $225,000 to $270,000 USD , with additional earning potential through production and a monthly Medical Director stipend. Medical Director package may include: Medical Director salary: $225,000–$270,000 Production-based earning opportunities Monthly stipend for the Medical Director leadership role Signing, retention and relocation packages of up to $125,000 Medical, dental and vision insurance 401(k) with discretionary contribution Paid parental leave for birth, adoption and foster care Continuing education (CE) stipends Career development and professional growth resources Emotional wellbeing support, including access to the Calm app and 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme Grant Circle financial support for eligible team members experiencing personal hardship Local clinical autonomy supported by a large national veterinary organisation As Medical Director & Associate Veterinarian , you will combine hands-on clinical veterinary medicine with an opportunity to contribute to the leadership and development of the hospital. You will work alongside experienced veterinarians, veterinary technicians and support professionals, collaborating closely with hospital and regional management. This position would suit a veterinarian who enjoys clinical medicine, surgery, dentistry, client communication, mentoring and veterinary practice leadership . The Medical Director component provides an opportunity to help maintain high standards of patient care, support clinical protocols, improve team efficiency and contribute to the continued development of the veterinary hospital. Key Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive veterinary examinations and medical work-ups. Diagnose and treat companion animal patients using appropriate evidence-based veterinary medicine. Perform veterinary surgical and dental procedures. Develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans. Communicate clearly with pet owners regarding diagnoses, treatment options, prognosis and preventative healthcare. Maintain accurate and comprehensive veterinary medical records. Prescribe medications and comply with pharmacy and controlled-substance protocols. Monitor patients and clinical cases throughout their hospital stay. Participate in daily clinical rounds where appropriate. Support the implementation and maintenance of high standards of veterinary medicine. Review and monitor clinical protocols and hospital procedures. Work collaboratively with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager on operational priorities. Promote teamwork, communication and efficiency across the veterinary team. Participate in practice management initiatives, training and professional development. Support the development and mentoring of veterinary and hospital team members. Contribute to a positive, professional and collaborative workplace culture. Leadership responsibilities may include: Supporting high standards of clinical and surgical care. Reviewing clinical protocols and recommending improvements. Supporting case discussion and clinical decision-making. Helping develop and mentor the veterinary team. Promoting continuing education and professional development. Working with hospital management to establish priorities. Supporting efficient patient flow from admission through discharge. Contributing to practice-level performance and operational improvements. Helping create a positive culture focused on patient care, client experience and team wellbeing. Required Qualifications: A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree from an accredited veterinary college or university. A current California veterinary licence, or eligibility to obtain and maintain one. DEA registration, or the ability to obtain and maintain DEA registration as required. At least 1 year of veterinary practice experience . Strong clinical and diagnostic skills. Veterinary surgical and dental experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A collaborative, team-oriented approach. A commitment to compassionate, high-quality veterinary medicine. The ability to communicate effectively with veterinary colleagues, hospital staff and pet owners. The ability to obtain an accurate patient history and establish rapport with clients. Confidence when caring for animals experiencing significant illness, pain or stress. Preferred Veterinary Skills & Experience: Companion animal clinical medicine Veterinary diagnostics Veterinary surgery Veterinary dentistry Cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopaedic and neurological examinations Diagnosis and development of treatment plans Client education and communication Veterinary team leadership Veterinary practice management Clinical protocol development and implementation Staff mentoring and professional development Veterinary business and financial awareness Ethical clinical decision-making Continuing professional development and continuing veterinary education Previous Medical Director, Veterinary Medical Director, Clinical Director, Associate Veterinarian, Lead Veterinarian or Veterinary Practice Manager experience may be advantageous, although veterinarians with strong clinical experience and leadership ambitions are encouraged to apply. Physical Requirements: The position may involve standing, walking, lifting and other physical activities associated with working in a veterinary hospital. Responsibilities may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Some duties involve moderately physically demanding work.
