RN, Clinical Base Lead - LifeForce 4 - Full-time

Job Summary:
The RN Clinical Base Lead is an experienced Registered Flight Nurse who is responsible for primary full-time flight status and has additional administrative duties in support of managing the operations and logistics of the air medical base.

Non-Clinical Requirements
Assists the Regional Operation Managers in planning, preparation, and adherence to the respective base clinical operating and personnel budget.

Completes yearly evaluations for the respective base clinical flight staff, including reviewing same with the employee. Recommends individual development plans, making recommendations to improve performance where necessary.

Responsible for handling of personnel issues, within level of authority, including but not limited to, corrective action, detailed record keeping, commendation and maintenance of the chronological record.

Provides clinical and managerial leadership to ensure that all staff are proficient in patient care, that appropriate paperwork and records are prepared and maintained, and that they have the education and resources to accomplish their performance objectives.

Ensures that the base has adequate levels of supplies and medications to meet anticipated needs.

Maintains oversight for all equipment necessary for program operations at the base level.

Maintains peer review and administrative review process at the base level.

Maintains medical crew staffing schedules as necessary.

Clinical Requirements
Maintains flight proficiency

Collaborates and acts as the medical crew liaison for the LIFEFORCE satellite base to which they are assigned within the department, the public arena, emergency medical services community and to all additional health care providers within the institution and the region served.


Responsible for direct/indirect care of the patient (s) during pre-hospital and inter-facility transports on board the aircraft or as deemed necessary within the hospital. As a member of a highly trained and proficient team, assesses any trauma or medical patient and initiates indicated treatment modalities in accordance with written guidelines and verbal medical control direction, and in accordance with training and licensure.


Maintains knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age (s) of the patient (s) transported by the air medical service, including age appropriate treatment of the neonate through geriatric populations.


Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and assimilate the information necessary to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, and to provide and prioritize care based on LIFEFORCE/EHS guidelines and procedures.


Works in and around helicopters in all phases of flight and assists with maintaining cleanliness and efficiency of the air medical department.


Assumes responsibility for regular ACM duties, CQI, maintenance of training records, research/special project assignments, coordinating continuing education for flight team and outreach education for Police/Fire/EMS/ and hospital care providers.


Allowing flexibility in schedule to function as Flight RN at multiple site locations if directed.

Education:
Required:
Graduate of a School of Nursing accredited by the State Licensing Agency. An AS or Diploma in nursing is required. Meets State of Tennessee requirements as a Flight Nurse.


Preferred:
BSN or BS in nursing


Experience
Required:
A minimum of three years of rotor wing air medical experience is required. Experience must reflect general knowledge in nursing and prehospital medicine principles and practice skills, current trends, and new developments. Experience should demonstrate effective leadership skills.

Preferred:
Five years of rotor wing air medical experience, including leadership responsibilities.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration/Weight
Required:
Current license to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee. Must obtain Tennessee and Georgia RN licensure prior to starting clinical orientation with LIFEFORCE.

Certifications:
Certification in BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.
Certification in ACLS.
Certification in one of the following: PALS, PEPP or ENPC.
Certification in one of the following: ITLS or PHTLS.
Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
After LIFE FORCE orientation, must always meet the state of Tennessee's Air Ambulance rules requirements as a Flight Nurse. GA and TN EMS license or certification (EMT Basic, AEMT or Paramedic) must be obtained within 12 months of hire. CFRN required within one year of date of hire.


The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

Preferred:
Instructor certifications in BLS, ACLS, ITLS, PHTLS, PEPP or PALS, TNCC or TNATC. National Registry certification.


Required:
Due to weight limitations allowed onboard the aircraft, the maximum body weight is 250 lbs including gear for EC-135 or Bell 407 aircraft bases.


Department Position Summary:
Ability to perform both Basic and Advanced Life Support practices in the execution of patient care
Possesses sound judgment and organizational ability
Possesses and demonstrates above average written and oral communication skills
Maintains proficiency as a FAA designated crewmember
Maintains provider certifications in ACLS, BLS, BTLS or PHTLS, PALS, and TNCC or TNATC, (instructor certifications preferred).
Maintains current CEN, CCRN or CFRN required.
Must be able to tolerate the stresses of flight including, but not limited to, unpressurized helicopter flight in both VFR and IFR weather conditions, motion sickness and temperature extremes.
Must be physically fit to lift, twist, bend and work in small, sometimes hazardous environments.
Must meet all FAA designated crewmembers requirement to participate in initial and random drug screening while employed as such.
Must be able to wear installed safety belts, helmets, Nomex flight suit, and boots.
