Peer Specialist - Bright Corner

Job Description

Whitecap Search Healthcare Partners is seeking a full-time Peer Specialist to assist a large social service organization in Brooklyn, NY. The role involves developing meaningful relationships with patients and families by providing resources for supportive care and guidance.

Job Function:

Engagement: Foster a sense of community through shared lived experiences and maintain clear professional boundaries. Build strong, trusting relationships and encourage help-seeking behaviors.
Advocacy & Support: Support access to needed care by addressing barriers and advocate on behalf of individuals. Facilitate educational and wellness activities and support self-awareness and life skills development.
Communication & Professional Responsibilities: Maintain open communication with team members, complete timely documentation, and uphold strict confidentiality.

Requirements:

High school diploma
Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (or Provisional) Certification required (CRPA)
Preferable lived experience of mental health challenges, including psychosis during youth
Relates well to all ages, cultures, and backgrounds
Demonstrates good interpersonal communication skills and ability to empathize
One-Two years of active participation in mental health self-help activities or similar experiences
Ability/willingness to disclose recovery story for empowerment purposes
Excellent judgment and understanding of boundaries required
