Nuclear Medicine Technologist

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to provide healthcare services utilizing radionuclides for diagnostic and treatment purposes. The successful candidate will perform nuclear medicine procedures to produce images for interpretation by licensed practitioners while maintaining the highest professional standards.

Essential Job Functions:

• Perform diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures.
• Corroborate patient clinical history with procedures, ensuring information is documented for licensed practitioners.
• Prepare patients for imaging procedures; provide necessary instructions to ensure desired outcomes and minimize anxiety.
• Select and operate radiation detection, imaging, and associated equipment effectively.
• Position patients and equipment optimally to demonstrate relevant anatomical areas, considering patient comfort and ability.
• Immobilize patients as necessary for accurate examinations.
• Prepare, calculate, identify, and administer radiopharmaceuticals and medications as prescribed.
• Evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification.
• Verify informed consent and assist licensed practitioners with interventional procedures.
• Practice aseptic techniques when required.
• Assume responsibility for the physical and emotional needs of patients during procedures.
• Initiate basic life support actions when necessary.
• Maintain knowledge of and adhere to Universal precautions.
• Perform venipuncture as required.
• Assist in maintaining accurate records while respecting patient confidentiality.
• Report equipment malfunctions and take responsibility for assigned areas.
• Contribute to equipment purchase and supply decisions.
• Provide practical instruction to students and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in the department's quality assessment and improvement initiatives.
• Manage inventory and procurement of supplies for designated areas.
• Utilize effective patient relations skills.
• Pursue continuing education to maintain relevant licenses and certifications.
• Support the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in required education programs as applicable to the position.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Education:
  
  
  • Required: Associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited Nuclear Medicine program.
• Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
  
  
  • Required: OBMI and ARRT registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Preferred: CRASE training (required for travel assignments beyond six months).
• Experience:
  
  
  • Required: None.
  • Preferred: Minimum of 2 years' experience.

Physical Requirements:

The position requires the following physical and sensory functions:

• Ability to detect and respond to various sounds, including patient alarms and verbal communication.
• Clear and effective communication with patients, families, and team members.
• Visual acuity to monitor patient conditions and interpret clinical documentation.
• Tactile perception for assessing physical characteristics during patient care.
• Motor coordination for handling medical equipment and performing fine motor tasks.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently, with frequent handling of objects or patients up to 25 pounds.
• Occasional lifting or transferring of individuals over 100 pounds, using appropriate techniques and assistance as needed.
• May require long periods of sitting, standing, or walking.

Working Conditions:

The role is primarily performed in an indoor healthcare environment, including exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials. Adherence to safety protocols is essential, and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be utilized where required. The environment may be fast-paced and unpredictable, necessitating quick responses to changing circumstances and the ability to manage multiple demands effectively.
