Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design and delivery across commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. The Lead Electrical Engineer will own electrical system design (lighting, power, distribution), ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, manage project teams, and coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, and contractors. The role requires strong technical expertise, hands-on Revit/BIM experience, and demonstrated leadership to drive quality, schedule, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage electrical engineering design for projects including lighting, power distribution, standby power, and low-voltage systems from concept through construction.
  • Produce and review construction documents, specifications, and calculations ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IES, local codes).
  • Develop single-line diagrams, load calculations, short-circuit and coordination studies, panel schedules, and system protection strategies.
  • Create, maintain, and review Revit/BIM electrical models and ensure adherence to firm BIM standards and workflows.
  • Coordinate electrical design with architects, mechanical/plumbing engineers, structural engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve clashes and integrate systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, conducting design reviews and training on best practices and standards.
  • Serve as primary client contact for technical discussions, design presentations, and project progress updates.
  • Oversee construction administration tasks including contractor submittal review, site visits, RFI responses, and field clarifications to ensure design intent is met.
  • Support procurement activities by preparing equipment specifications, scope of work, and evaluating vendor proposals.
  • Ensure quality control through internal checks, compliance reviews, and continuous process improvement of engineering deliverables.
  • Participate in project scheduling, budget tracking, and resource allocation to meet project milestones and financial targets.
  • Lead commissioning and startup activities for electrical systems and resolve any post-installation issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Masters degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe; active PE strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Proven experience designing lighting, power, and distribution systems for commercial, institutional, or industrial projects.
  • Strong proficiency with Revit and experience managing BIM models; familiarity with Revit electrical families and workflows.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including NEC, IEEE, IESNA, and local building codes.
  • Experience performing load calculations, short-circuit analysis, protective device coordination, and power system studies.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD, Revit, electrical design software, and MS Office. Experience with lighting design tools and energy analysis is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience interacting with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead technical staff, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines within budget.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills and commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
