Software Engineering Intern - Product Lifecycle Management (Spring 2027 Co-Op)

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and 2029. Rivian's Internship Program requires active student enrollment. Information regarding your expected degree completion date is collected solely to verify eligibility and determine your availability for future full-time opportunities. Rivian is an equal opportunity employer and does not use graduation dates to determine the age of applicants or as a basis for discriminatory hiring decisions.

If you are not pursuing a degree, please see our full time positions on our Rivian careers site. Note that if your university has specific requirements for internship programs, it is your responsibility to fulfill those requirements.

Our Spring Co-Op program runs from Jan - Aug, 2027 . In order to be considered for this role, you must be available to work full time (40 hours per week), onsite, for the entire duration. If you are unable to work during the spring semester, please apply to our Summer Internship Program.

Accelerated Vehicle Design: Automating Catia V6 regression testing allows Rivian to significantly speed up vehicle engineering cycles by instantly catching CAD integration errors that would otherwise require tedious manual inspection.

Intelligent Quality Control: Integrating AI into this automation framework enables the system to predict and prioritize high-risk design changes, ensuring the structural and functional integrity of complex EV models after every system update.

Strategic Talent Pipeline: Creating a dedicated Coop role for this project provides a cost-effective way to modernize Rivian's product lifecycle management (PLM) workflows while training early-career engineers in their specific software ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• C++ API Integration: Programmatically interact with the Dassault Systèmes ecosystem by leveraging Catia V6 C++ APIs (CAA RADE) to extract geometric data, manipulate 3D assemblies, and execute automated sequences directly within the CAD environment.
• Agentic AI Implementation: Design and deploy autonomous AI agents capable of exploring complex vehicle assemblies, dynamically generating edge-case test scenarios, and prioritizing high-risk structural changes without human intervention.
• Full-Stack Application Development: Build and maintain scalable backend infrastructure and internal tooling that orchestrates the execution of these AI-driven tests, providing a seamless interface for Rivian's mechanical and software engineering teams.
• Automated Regression Architecture: Architect a robust continuous integration (CI) pipeline that connects the Catia V6 environment with the AI testing framework, ensuring comprehensive regression suites run reliably after every major PLM or vehicle design update.
• Intelligent Debugging & Analysis: Analyze complex geometric failures and systemic anomalies flagged by the AI agents, collaborating cross-functionally to resolve bugs, refine the testing algorithms, and ensure the structural integrity of Rivian's EV platforms.

Qualifications

• Must be currently pursuing a bachelors or masters degree at an accredited university.
• Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in computer science or a closely related computational field.
• C++ & Spatial Geometry: Strong proficiency in C++ object-oriented programming with a solid grasp of 3D mathematics, vector geometry, and ideally, prior exposure to complex CAD APIs like Catia V6 CAA RADE.
• Applied Agentic AI: Demonstrated experience or advanced coursework working with autonomous AI agents, large language models (LLMs), or reinforcement learning frameworks applied to automated decision-making and workflow orchestration.
• Modern Software Engineering: Hands-on experience building scalable backend services or full-stack applications using Python or similar modern languages, coupled with working knowledge of REST APIs, version control (Git), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Cross-Disciplinary Execution: Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to translate mechanical engineering constraints into robust software architecture, driven by a strong passion for the electric vehicle industry.
