The HR & Safety Specialist provides dedicated Human Resources, Safety, and administrative support to weekend and second-shift operations at Unified Defense. This position serves as an on-site resource for employees and supervisors during hours when regular HR, Safety, and administrative management coverage may be limited.

The Specialist provides first-line support for workplace incidents, employee concerns, injuries, safety matters, documentation, routine HR questions, and general employee needs. The position also conducts safety observations and audits, assists with preliminary fact-finding, responds to workplace injuries, and ensures matters requiring additional attention are appropriately documented and escalated.

Schedule & Availability 

This is a full-time position primarily supporting weekend and second-shift operations. 

The schedule will be established based on operational coverage needs and may include a combination of weekend and weekday second-shift hours. 

Schedule flexibility is an essential component of this position.

Requirements

What You’ll Do:

Human Resources & Employee Relations 

• Serve as the on-site HR resource for weekend and second-shift employees and supervisors, responding to routine questions about company policies, attendance, timekeeping, workplace expectations, and HR processes. 
• Receive and document employee complaints, concerns, and workplace issues. 
• Conduct preliminary fact-finding when workplace concerns or incidents occur, including identifying witnesses, obtaining initial statements, documenting timelines, and preserving relevant information. 
• Escalate harassment or discrimination allegations, threats, workplace violence, suspected impairment, serious misconduct, or other significant employee relations matters to the HR Manager. 
• Assist supervisors with documentation related to attendance, conduct, performance, and workplace incidents. 
• Assist with onboarding, employee paperwork, HR communications, and other administrative HR functions as needed. 
• Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive employee information. 

Safety 

• Serve as the on-site Safety resource during assigned weekend and second-shift hours, assisting supervisors and employees with routine safety questions and established procedures. 
• Conduct routine safety observations, inspections, and audits as directed by the Safety Director, monitoring work areas for unsafe conditions, PPE compliance, and potential hazards. 
• Follow up on identified safety concerns and track corrective actions to completion. 
• Respond to workplace injuries, incidents, and emergencies in accordance with established response and reporting procedures. 
• Assist injured employees in obtaining appropriate medical evaluation, including transporting or accompanying them to an approved occupational health provider, urgent care, emergency room, or other appropriate facility when required. 
• Communicate workplace injuries and medical treatment to the Safety Director and appropriate leadership in a timely manner, and immediately escalate serious injuries, significant hazards, emergencies, or other high-risk situations. 
• Complete required injury and incident documentation, assist with follow-up activities, and support workers' compensation documentation and administrative processes as assigned by the Safety Director. 
• Support safety training, employee safety communications, training records, inspection records, and other Safety administrative functions. 

Weekend & 2nd Shift Support 

• Maintain a visible and approachable presence throughout weekend and second-shift operations through regular floor walks and employee/supervisor check-ins. 
• Develop effective working relationships with employees and supervisors while remaining objective and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. 
• Serve as the communication link between weekend/second-shift operations and HR/Safety leadership. 
• Provide HR and Safety leadership with timely documentation and summaries of significant activity, including employee concerns, injuries, incidents, safety observations, and matters requiring follow-up or further investigation. 
• Remain onsite beyond scheduled hours when necessary to respond to or document an active HR or Safety matter. 
• Provide general administrative and office support, and perform additional HR, Safety, and administrative duties as assigned. 

 

Who You Are: 

• High school diploma or equivalent required. 
• Previous professional experience in Human Resources, workplace safety, employee relations, manufacturing, supervision, compliance, or a related environment. 
• Must possess and maintain a valid, active driver’s license and meet applicable company requirements for operating a vehicle when transporting or accompanying employees for medical evaluation. 
• Ability and willingness to transport or accompany injured employees for medical evaluation when required as part of the position. 
• Ability to conduct objective preliminary fact-finding and produce clear, factual written documentation. 
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 
• Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during sensitive, difficult, or high-pressure situations. 
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive employee and company information. 
• Ability to work independently during periods when HR and Safety management may not be physically onsite. 
• Ability to recognize situations requiring immediate escalation. 
• Strong organizational, administrative, and follow-up skills. 
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn company HR, Safety, and administrative systems.
