Director of Respiratory ServicesPosition Overview

The Director of Respiratory Services is responsible for overseeing the respiratory therapy department and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. This position provides leadership to a team of Respiratory Therapists, oversees departmental staffing and scheduling, manages equipment and supply needs, and ensures the department operates efficiently and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

• Minimum of 5 years of Respiratory Therapy experience.

• Current RRT credential and active, unrestricted professional license.

• Minimum of 3 years of management or supervisory experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.

• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Knowledge of applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.

• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.

• Proficiency with computers and common software applications.

• Strong Director of Nursing candidates with relevant nursing home experience will also be considered.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversee the Respiratory Therapy Department and provide leadership and direction to a team Respiratory Therapists.

• Manage all departmental staffing and scheduling to ensure adequate coverage and efficient operations.

• Ensure respiratory therapy services are delivered in accordance with patient care plans, physician orders, departmental policies, and applicable standards of practice.

• Monitor the department's equipment and supply needs, ensuring all necessary non-life-saving respiratory equipment, including BiPAP and CPAP equipment, is ordered and available in a timely manner.

• Oversee the maintenance, calibration, cleaning, disinfection, and proper functioning of respiratory equipment.

• Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies and procedures.

• Monitor departmental performance and participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives.

• Provide education and support to respiratory therapy staff, patients, and families as appropriate.

• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and infection control requirements.

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to support high-quality patient care.

• Promote a professional, respectful, and collaborative work environment.

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
