Audience Services Associate, Greenwich House Theater

STATUS: Part-time, permanent, non-exempt

SALARY: $26/hour, appx. 26 hours per week

REPORTS TO: Head of Greenwich House Theater Operations

Ars Nova seeks a dynamic hospitality-minded host, consummate professional and steward of safe day-to-day operations and audience experience as the Audience Services Associate, Greenwich House Theater Operations. The Audience Services Associate of the Greenwich House Theater will support the Head of Greenwich House Theater Operations by leading the administration, on-site supervision and operations of our front-of-house teams, including house management shifts each week and managing bar concessions for rental productions throughout the season. This is a seasonal position that flexes between rental productions at the space with possible downtime between shows; however, the Greenwich House Theater is an in-demand Off-Broadway venue that is consistently booked, and we are excited to find a long-term team member for whom this consistent, part-time work is a good fit.

ABOUT THE GREENWICH HOUSE THEATER:

The historic Greenwich House Theater, located in the West Village, is a 199-seat flexible theater located on the first floor of the nonprofit Greenwich House, which was founded in 1902 as a settlement house, and offers programs in the arts, education, and social services. Ars Nova began a long-term lease on the Greenwich House Theater in 2018 as an expansion of our producing activity. Between our productions, Ars Nova has rented out the space to a variety of Off-Broadway productions–and during the 2026/27 season, Ars Nova anticipates using Greenwich House exclusively as a rental space to generate income for our core artistic programs at our 54th Street location.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES: The responsibilities, competencies and expectations outlined below are representative and may shift as needed to best align with organizational priorities.

• Managing and leading all front-of-house (FOH) and bar operations for third-party rental and Greenwich House community showcases, if applicable, at Greenwich House Theater, including house managing up to 4 performances per show week and serving as the primary point of contact for the FOH team;
• Acting as liaison at show curtain between rental producer’s staff, including producers, stage and company management and any third-party ticketing personnel, as applicable;
• Working closely with the Audience Services Associate, 54th Street Operations and the Head of Greenwich House Theater Operations in hiring, training, mentoring, scheduling, supervising and maintaining the FOH staff roster, including house managers, ushers and bartenders;
• Ensuring all FDNY and Department of Health permits , certificates of fitness and licenses carried by staff are current and on file;
• Maintaining and managing the overall appearance and supplies to support the patron experience in the lobby, restrooms, other theater support spaces and at the bar, while managing the audience traffic flow and efficient in-take and departure in a shared-use lobby;
• Ensuring house reports for all events and any other incident reports are composed and distributed in a timely manner, followed-up on and filed appropriately;
• Supervising Substitute House Managers , and partnering with them to execute patron experiences at a top level and day-to-day safety protocols, and to be your eyes-and-ears when you are not around;
• Supporting the Head of Greenwich House Theater Operations in payroll management for FOH staff for shows at Greenwich House Theater, including confirming scheduling (When2Work) and clock-ins (Clockify) are accurate prior to each week’s pay cycle;
• Working closely with the Head of Greenwich House Theater Operations, General Manager and Venue Technical Supervisor in creating and executing fire and non-fire emergency, and safety preparedness and response plans at Greenwich House Theater, including but not limited to front-of-house staff training and bi-yearly drills;
• Ordering and maintaining all supplies and inventory for front-of-house operations and bar operations, our in-house source for pre-show and intermission libations and snacks;
• Supporting management of budget lines for FOH operations , including income and expense tracking, and per-performance and weekly sales reconciliations for bar concessions, including the timely coordination of the cash bank with the Head of Greenwich House Theater Operations and the Finance team;
• Implementing and supporting any accessibility and safety needs , and prioritizing an environment of belonging and integrity in our FOH staff, to make sure everyone feels truly welcome at the theater.

ABOUT YOU:

• You have experience working in front-of-house management , including bar and concessions management;
• You have a passion for theater, for artists of all stripes , and love connecting communities to each other and to live entertainment;
• You are a self‑starter , and can work independently at a high level, while flagging needs and concerns in a timely manner when needed;
• You have a high level of standards for customer service, facility aesthetics, and professionalism –and can motivate and guide others to meet that bar;
• You have a flexible schedule and are able to flex your weekly routine around a changing performance calendar;
• You share our commitment to anti‑racism and creating and maintaining an inclusive environment, are excited about joining our efforts to make Ars Nova a more just and equitable place to work and make work, and have the ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and socio‑economic backgrounds.

AN EXCEPTIONAL OPPORTUNITY: This is a non-exempt, part-time position with an hourly rate of $26/hour. Ars Nova aims to compensate fairly and competitively within the not-for-profit entertainment industry, and on a transparent level salary system within the organization. Benefits include a limited paid time off policy; an opt-in 401(k) retirement savings plan after one year, with an employer match up to 3.5%; and an opt-in TransitChek plan.

Ars Nova is based in NYC, and this position will require regular onsite, in-person activity (including some evenings, weekends and holidays), so the applicant should intend to reside in the greater NYC area. This position is based out of Greenwich House at 27 Barrow Street. Occasional hybrid work may be possible, but this is primarily an in-person position.
