We build systems that can handle wildly varying access patterns and unprecedented load by our customers.S3 Index team is looking for a passionate, experienced software development manager to build the next generation of S3 Indexing system. In this role, you will leverage your technical depth in large-scale distributed systems to solve complex problems with simple solutions for one of AWS's foundational services. You will be building systems capable of gracefully accommodating highly diverse access patterns and substantial throughput demands driven by our customers. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at massive scale while building both great software and great teams.Utility Computing (UC)AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.Key job responsibilities* Lead and mentor a team of talented software engineers, creating structures that enable them to solve complex problems and deliver high-impact solutions while fostering their growth and professional development.* Own team-wide architectural decisions and technical direction for a high-visibility S3-wide initiative, ensuring quality software aligned with Amazon's engineering best practices while making appropriate trade-offs between tactical needs and strategic goals.* Create mechanisms and metrics that enable you to explain your team's performance and identify opportunities to improve customer experiences.* Partner with engineering leaders across S3 to identify and address complex technical challenges, evaluating downstream impacts and architectural cohesiveness.A day in the lifeThroughout the day, you'll collaborate with your team of talented software engineers to solve problems to deliver innovations across this foundational AWS service. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
