Operations Manager

Hello Gravel is growing, and we are looking for a rock-solid Operations Manager to help us grow the right way. This is a New Orleans-based hybrid role for a hands‑on leader who loves turning a lot of moving pieces into a team that feels supported, accountable, and on top of things. You will work from our local office regularly, partner closely with our Director of Operations, and help lead the customer service and fulfillment/sourcing teams behind Hello Gravel. We are looking for someone who already lives in the New Orleans area. This is not a fully remote role, and we are not considering candidates outside the area. About Hello Gravel Hello Gravel is a fast‑growing startup making it easier for customers to get the gravel, rock, sand, dirt, and other materials they need, without the usual construction‑material headache. We are building something fresh in an industry that has traditionally been anything but simple. What you'll do You will help lead the operational rhythm for our customer service and fulfillment/sourcing teams, directly supporting six internationally based managers and a distributed international team of approximately 50 people. Lead, coach, and support six internationally based managers. Create clear priorities, accountability, connection, and follow-through across teams working in different countries and time zones. Run weekly manager one‑on‑ones and operating reviews that keep everyone aligned. Help managers handle performance concerns, recognition, hiring, onboarding, and training with consistency. Own daily staffing, coverage, priorities, and routine operational escalations. Own the escalation process for people, customer, supplier, and operational issues. Help managers resolve team concerns quickly, fairly, and consistently. Escalate sensitive or high‑impact employee matters to the Director of Operations when needed. Step in on customer escalations to ensure issues are handled with urgency, good judgment, and a great customer experience. Identify escalation patterns and turn recurring problems into clearer processes, training, or system improvements. Keep scorecards, manager notes, playbooks, and coaching tasks part of the normal operating rhythm. Spot recurring problems, get to the root of them, and help create practical fixes. Coordinate vendor follow‑up and operational projects. Partner with the Director of Operations on reporting, systems, process improvements, and bigger operational priorities. Share clear weekly updates on wins, risks, decisions needed, and what is next. Must live in the New Orleans area and be able to work from our office regularly. What we're looking for You are a confident people leader who can be warm, direct, organized, and calm when things get busy. You do not need everything to be perfect before you jump in. You are excited by the chance to build better systems and help people do their best work. Proven experience leading and developing internationally based, remote teams across multiple countries and time zones is strongly preferred. Comfortable creating accountability, connection, and clear communication across distributed teams. Experience in customer service, fulfillment, logistics, marketplace operations, or another fast‑moving service environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills with a natural coaching style. Comfort using scorecards, processes, and routines to improve team performance. The ability to bring structure without bringing unnecessary corporate fluff. Strong follow‑through, sound judgment, and an ownership mindset. Comfortable with technology and eager to use AI tools confidently to improve communication, documentation, reporting, problem‑solving, and day‑to‑day operations. Curious, adaptable, and excited to learn new tools that help the team work smarter and move faster. Must live in the New Orleans area and be able to work from our office regularly. What success looks like In your first 90 days, you will build strong relationships with each manager, create a dependable management rhythm, make scorecards and coaching routines more useful, resolve key people and customer escalations, solve recurring pain points, and give the team clearer visibility into what needs attention. Most importantly, you will help us build an operation that feels more supported, more accountable, and ready for what is next.
