Basic Job Functions: The Melt Shop Day Supervisor will promote safety as our #1 priority, establish expectations, develop best practices for the area, ensure consistency, assess performance at both the individual and department level, evaluate needs, develop team members, serve as a resource for operating crews, facilitate collaboration throughout the plant, and participate in long term strategic planning for the department. The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for a specific area of the Melt Cast area and may be reassigned to a different area in the future. This position will actively participate in meetings and activities before, during, and after regularly scheduled work hours. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. Minimum Qualifications:
- Three years leadership experience.
- Leadership Presence and Courage: Willingness and confidence to have immediate and direct conversations on critical alignment issues such as teamwork, building relationships, initiating and supporting change, and production process issues that arise. This includes the willingness to face adversity and conflict head on. (Demonstrated dependability-being reliable, responsible, and committed to fulfilling obligations.)
- Communication: The ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information so that others will understand. (Demonstrated ability to teach, develop, motivate, and guide teammates).
- Teamwork: Has a demonstrated history of working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal.
- Accountability: Displays responsibility with work habits and has ability to hold others accountable for desired results.
- Initiative: Being proactive with seeking out work that needs to be done and being willing to take on responsibilities and challenges.
- Problem Solving & Judgement/Decision making - Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement the most appropriate solution.
- Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work: Must be able to develop specific goals and plans for prioritizing, organizing, and accomplishing individual work and/or work with the team.
- Attention to Detail: Must be thorough in accomplishing tasks, no matter how small they may be, and taking care to make sure that expectations are met.
- At least three years of melting and or casting experience
- Four-year technical degree
- Demonstrated knowledge in a variety of areas throughout the steelmaking process which could include raw materials, melting, refining, casting, refractories, rolling, and downstream processing.
- Strong computer skills including word processing, presentation preparation, and data analysis
