Job Summary:

The SPD Technician I performs sterile processing duties under direct supervision, including basic decontamination, cleaning, and packaging of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This position provides foundational training in sterile processing principles and procedures while supporting the department's mission to provide safe, sterile instruments and supplies.

• Basic understanding of infection control principles
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Basic computer skills
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures

Licensure and Certification:

• No certification required at hire
• Must complete facility orientation and competency training within 90 days
• Encouraged to pursue sterile processing certification within 18 months

Education:

• High School Graduate or GED equivalent
• Completion of accredited sterile processing technician program OR
• Evidence of extensive on-the-job training in sterile processing

Experience:

• No prior experience required with completion of accredited sterile processing technician program
• Healthcare experience preferred but not required
• On-the-job training provided for new graduates of accredited sterile processing program
