Registered Dietitian

Our local government partner is hiring an on-site Registered Dietitian who provides individualized nutrition counseling to their WIC Dept., also develops nutrition education materials, and helps assess high-risk participants for WIC benefits and special food packages. They conduct anthropometricmeasurements, perform nutritional assessments, and maintain client records, working as part of a WIC team to support the health of women, infants, and children. In-Person schedule Firm availability needed when presenting resume Nutrition experience with pregnancy, women, infants, and children preferred / WIC specific experience a plus Bilingual Preferred (Spanish) Supervisory experience not required S alary dependent on qualifications Must be registered in the State of Texas / Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (provide proof) Allowable licensure: Registered Dietitian (RD) Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) Registered Dietitian/Licensed Dietitian (RD/LD) Registered Dietitian Nutritionist/ Licensed Dietitian (RDN/LD) JOB INFORMATION Reports To: PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITION/WIC MANAGER ORGANIZATION Department: Health Services Position Type: Management/Supervisory JOB SUMMARY Under basic supervision, provides counseling, education, and assessment for infants, children, and pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women clients for the Public Health District (PHD); supervises and trains clinic staff. Essential Functions • Provides direct client care for PHD clients, including interviewing and assessing nutritional status to determine client's WIC eligibility and nutrition care plan; performs anthropometric and biochemical measurements; approves specialty infant formulas; provides nutrition education and outreach programs and works with the community to increase public awareness of proper nutrition; provides information, counseling, and medical case management according to specific program and physician guidelines. • Supervises staff, assigns duties, monitors operations, and reviews the work of assigned staff to assure the efficient and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities. • Evaluates appropriateness of formula issuance; coordinates quality assurance plan; and performs supervisory and clerical duties as needed. • Tracks and completes State Reports for Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for WIC Certifying Specialists and Certifying Authorities. • Provides nutrition case management and referrals as needed for high-risk participants, including but not limited to caloric and water flush calculations for tube feedings for appropriate metabolic formulations and tracking drop shipments for medically fragile participants to reduce disruption of supplement to qualifying participants. • Develops lesson plans for nutrition education that are compliant with State WIC policies and guidelines. • Conducts event planning and coordination for nutrition education programs and classes provided to staff and to the public. • Assists with staff Performance Reviews related to nutrition education duties and skills. • Driving is essential. Knowledge of: Principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics, including health maintenance and wellness. Knowledge of: Case management methods, practices and procedures for the assigned client population. Knowledge of: Supervisory principles and practices. Skills in: Presenting nutritional information to PHD program participants and the public. Skills in: Counseling clients with a variety of health issues. Skills in: Lesson Planning for Nutrition Education Group Classes, Social Media Content review and Livestream lessons and food demonstrations. Skills in: SNAP Education collaborating with Health Education and Equity Projects and monthly State Reporting. Skills in: Working effectively with others to develop solutions for social services problems. Skills in: Utilizing standard personal computer software programs and specialized state and City software. Skills in: Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
