VP, Software Engineering

Job Summary The Vice President, Software Engineering provides leadership in aligning technology development with business objectives for assigned platforms and/or technologies. The incumbent leads software engineering managers, database specialists, software developers, and contract labor teams, drives software development across multiple agile teams, and ensures execution of work plans. They set department priorities to meet software development, maintenance, and innovation objectives. Responsibilities Own the strategic vision and roadmap for all products within your area of responsibility. Ensure alignment between business strategies, enterprise transformation initiatives, and technology standards. Ensure quality and timely delivery of new or enhanced systems and technologies. Lead solution architecture, software engineering, test automation, performance engineering, DevSecOps, and production support service levels. Collaborate with customers, IT managers, vendors, and management to maximize technology opportunities and improve customer experience. Prepare business cases, including financial analyses of potential new technologies or systems. Contribute to the development of software, test automation, performance engineering standards, policies, processes, and procedures. Continuously assess technology needs of supported business functions relative to emerging technologies. Participate in vendor and strategic partner evaluations and maintain ongoing relationships. Prepare and manage department budget: P&L forecasting, operational and capital expenditures, contract negotiations, and invoice processing. Recruit, select, train, develop, and manage performance of the team, including recognition and rewards. Qualifications 10‑15 years of experience in software development and architecture. 8+ years of management experience and 5+ years of managing people managers. 3+ years of experience in a leadership role focused on strategic vision, vendor management, and budget preparation. 3+ years of experience in preparing and managing a department budget. 5+ years of experience in solution architecture leveraging modern architecture principles. Strong stakeholder management experience. Broad knowledge of software development techniques, processes, and best practices. Deep working knowledge of commercial insurance casualty, workers’ comp, construction, energy, and large account business. Knowledge of application test automation products, processes, and best practices. Proficiency with Java (backend) and Angular (frontend). Experience in scalable, high‑availability AWS and Azure hosting environments. Strong knowledge of MS SQL. Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, and consultative skills. Strong strategic decision‑making and long‑term planning abilities. Compensation Base salary range: $155,000 – $280,000 per year. Total individual compensation, including base salary and short‑ and long‑term incentives, will be based on geographic location, scope and responsibilities, qualifications, talent availability, and business needs.
