At Willamette View, a not for profit continuing care retirement community, the grounds are more than landscaping—they’re the pathways residents stroll, the gardens they enjoy, and the outdoor spaces that make our campus feel like home. As part of our Grounds team, you’ll work alongside a supportive supervisor and a close-knit crew to care for lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowerbeds through mowing, edging, raking, seeding, sodding, and fertilizing. You’ll also help prepare and maintain soil so plants can thrive, bringing pride and consistency to the outdoor environment our residents and staff count on every day. The Groundskeeper role is hands‑on and detail‑driven, with a strong focus on keeping campus systems running smoothly outdoors. You’ll apply fertilizer and treatments (such as herbicides and fungicides) using sprayers or granular products, and you’ll install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems—watering lawns, trees, plants, and shrubs using both installed and hand irrigation as needed. You’ll also help protect the campus by cleaning out catch basins, drainage ditches, and culverts, digging trenches when necessary, and maintaining ponds and pumps connected to ponds and irrigation. In addition, you’ll keep sidewalks, patios, curbs, and parking lots clean and safe, service and transport tools and equipment, report repair needs promptly, and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all safety policies and procedures. Just as important as the work itself are the relationships you’ll build along the way. You’ll work closely with residents and resident garden committees, respond to maintenance requests in a timely way, and support the community during special events by assisting with parking and other needs. Requirements Must be 18 years of age to operate tractor and machinery. Requires valid Oregon Driver’s License, which meets Willamette View’s background standards to drive company vehicle. Six months experience in basic lawn and shrub care preferred. Must be able to safely operate power mowers, edger, trimmers, and tractor. Requires ability to read and comprehend simple written instructions, add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number and common fractions, and have verbal skills to communicate with residents and employees of the organization. Ability to integrate non-scheduled work tasks into routine in order to meet schedules. Ability to meet productivity and quality standards on a consistent and routine basis.
