About the Department/College

Occupational Therapy

The Department of Occupational Therapy is located on NAU’s Phoenix Bioscience Core campus, where students have access to cutting edge technology, facilities, and labs. The department offers the Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree with an in person or hybrid learning option, preparing students to work as generalists with clients across all stages of life in a wide range of settings. This accredited degree is the only public and non-profit graduate program in the state of Arizona.

About the Position

Northern Arizona University’s entry-level doctoral Occupational Therapy (OT) Program, located in the downtown Phoenix Bioscience Core Campus, invites doctorally prepared candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Clinical Professor, Occupational Therapy. The responsibilities of successful candidates will include teaching courses related to one or more of the following topics: occupational therapy foundations of practice, the occupational therapy process across the lifespan, and adult and neurological populations. In addition, this position will require clinical faculty to engage in student advisement, applied scholarly activities, professional service, and additional duties that support the program’s mission and growth.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Engage in ongoing productive communication with faculty and department chair.
  • Teach and co-teach courses ensuring adherence to program goals, mission, vision and standards.
  • Exemplify and promote the curriculum’s mission and learning outcomes through the delivery of the curriculum.
  • Participate in formulating and implementing the department’s strategic plan in alignment with the college and university.
  • Participate in department wide accreditation requirements and renewals.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct.
  • Maintain current professional certification, licensure requirements, and membership in professional associations.
  • Maintain professional practice knowledge base and clinical expertise needed to help learners prepare for contemporary occupational therapy practice.
  • Use current research findings and scholarly works to improve OT education and practice.
  • Promote professionalism by modeling and encouraging professional behaviors inside and outside the educational setting.
Responsibilities Include

80% - Teaching & student related activities

  • Designing, teaching & evaluating courses for continuous quality improvement - (Essential)

10% - Service -

  • Performing assigned committee activities to the department, college, and the university - (Essential)

10% - Scholarship

  • Engage in scholarly related work aligned with department tenure and promotion document.
  • Assist students in scholarly endeavors through the practice scholar apprenticeship program. - (Essential)
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3 years or more of clinical experience as an occupational therapist.
  • Eligible for OT licensure in Arizona.
  • An earned doctoral degree in OT or related field from an institution regionally accredited by the USDE.

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Current National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certification.
  • Clinical expertise in one or multiple of the following areas: functional anatomy / neuroscience, adult rehabilitation, geriatric practice, upper extremity.
  • Record of effective teaching and advising at the university level.
  • Record of effective fieldwork supervision, capstone mentoring, and/or other student mentoring.
  • Record of sustained professional service and professional leadership.
  • Experience with the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
  • Significant scholarly or creative work and/or professional achievements in area of specialization.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
