Job Title: Assistant Boys Basketball Coach Division/Department: Athletics Reports To: Director of Athletics Location: Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA Level/Grade: 9-12 (varsity high school season) POSITION SUMMARY Chadwick School seeks an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach to assist in managing and guiding all aspects of the boys basketball program. The ideal candidate has experience coaching or playing competitive basketball, demonstrates strong leadership and communication skills, and is committed to fostering a positive team culture that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, character, and student leadership. ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborate with the Head Coach to plan, organize, and conduct regular practices focused on individual skill development and basketball tactical strategies. Teach and model the school’s core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, fairness, and compassion on and off the court. Assist with in‑game management, statistical tracking, film review, and strategic adjustments during competitive contests. Oversee the safety, supervision, and well‑being of student‑athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities. Communicate promptly and professionally with student‑athletes, families, and athletic staff. Support lower‑level teams (JV/Frosh‑Soph) to ensure vertical alignment and cohesive skill progression across the entire basketball program. Assist in maintaining basketball equipment, uniforms, and facility preparation. Demonstrate an ability to proactively reflect on and participate in discussions around identity, race, and issues of social justice as they relate to athletics. Participate in relevant department meetings, training, and school events as requested. Read and follow employment and athletics policies outlined in the Employee Handbook. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS Strong written and oral communication skills in English and strong organizational skills. Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. Prior experience coaching high school athletes in lacrosse preferred. Prior playing experience at the high school, collegiate, or professional level preferred. Strong knowledge of lacrosse fundamentals, strategies, and safety practices required. Student‑centered, collaborative, and inclusive approach to coaching required. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT Require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel objects, touch and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and an ability to adjust focus. May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day. Work environment is exposed to weather conditions and moderate noise level.
