Staff Accountant

We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join a fast paced financial services firm in Washington, DC. This position will have a strong focus on accounts payable while also supporting general accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close activities. The ideal candidate will have hands-on AP experience along with a solid foundation in general ledger accounting and be interested in continuing to develop their broader accounting skill set. Key Responsibilities: Manage day-to-day accounts payable activities, including invoice processing, coding, approvals, and vendor payments. Review invoices and expenses for accuracy, appropriate documentation, and proper general ledger coding. Maintain vendor records and research invoice or payment discrepancies. Prepare account and balance sheet reconciliations. Prepare and post journal entries as needed. Assist with month-end and year-end close activities. Review AP aging and reconcile accounts payable balances to the general ledger. Support employee expense reimbursements and corporate credit card reconciliations. Assist with annual 1099 preparation and other AP-related reporting. Provide documentation and accounting support for internal and external audits. Assist with additional general accounting projects as needed. Qualifications: 2+ years of accounts payable, staff accounting, or general accounting experience. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Strong understanding of accounts payable and basic general ledger accounting. Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close preferred. Nonprofit or association accounting experience is a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
