This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining industrial machinery, with a primary emphasis on stamping presses and plastic injection molding equipment. You will travel to customer sites to assess mechanical issues, perform repairs, and support general industrial maintenance, ensuring machinery operates safely and efficiently. The position works on a first-shift schedule and involves close collaboration with a sister team that handles rigging and equipment moves.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair stamping presses and plastic injection molding machines at customer sites.
• Respond to customer service calls to perform general mechanical machine repairs and maintenance.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders, and related components.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair pneumatic systems, including air lines, actuators, and control components.
• Service and repair mechanical components such as gears, motors, pumps, sprockets, and drive systems.
• Perform industrial maintenance tasks to keep machinery operating safely, reliably, and efficiently.
• Identify root causes of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues and implement effective solutions.
• Work with wiring and basic electrical connections related to machine operation and controls, as appropriate to the role.
• Document work performed, including issues found, repairs made, and parts used, in a clear and organized manner.
• Coordinate and collaborate with the sister company team on rigging, moving, and installing machinery and equipment.
• Travel to various customer locations as required to complete service calls and projects.
• Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working in customer facilities and in the shop.
• Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicle in good working condition and report any issues promptly.
• Provide professional, courteous communication to customers while on-site and represent the company positively.
• Adapt to varying work assignments, including occasional longer days when customer needs arise late in the shift.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in machine repair for plastic injection molding or stamping press equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with proven experience in industrial maintenance and machine repair.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic systems.
• Experience working with motors, gears, pumps, sprockets, and related mechanical components.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve issues on stamping presses.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve issues on plastic injection molding machines.
• Solid troubleshooting skills for mechanical and industrial equipment problems.
• Experience as a maintenance technician or similar industrial maintenance role.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical information relevant to machine repair tasks.
• Comfort working with wiring and basic machine-related electrical connections within the scope of the role.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites as needed.
• Ability to work first shift and occasionally extend the workday when customer needs require it.
• Strong safety awareness and adherence to industrial safety practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Journeyman Machine Repair credential is a strong plus.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus for supporting equipment moves and rigging activities.
• Experience working closely with rigging teams or moving heavy industrial equipment is beneficial.
• Prior experience with a wide variety of industrial machinery is an advantage.
• Strong communication skills and customer-facing experience in field service environments.
• Ability to work independently in the field and manage time effectively across multiple customer locations.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift position, typically working from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the flexibility to extend the day when customer calls come in later in the shift. Overtime is available daily for hours worked over eight in a day, with enhanced overtime rates for longer days. The role involves primarily field-based work at customer sites, with occasional travel of about one week per year, usually in one- to two-day trips. You will work extensively with stamping presses, injection molding equipment, and other industrial machinery, using company-provided tools and a company vehicle. The current shop is located in a downtown area and will be relocating within the next year to a larger facility in an industrial building, bringing both the repair and rigging operations under one roof. Uniforms are provided, and you will work in typical industrial and manufacturing environments that require adherence to standard safety practices and appropriate workwear.

This is a Permanent position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

The pay range for this position is $58000.00 - $83200.00/yr.
