Surgical Technologist

Coho Integrated Solutions are seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to support operating room and perioperative services at the 96th Medical Group, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The Surgical Technologist will support surgical teams throughout the perioperative process, maintain sterile technique, prepare and manage surgical instruments and equipment, assist with patient care and positioning, and maintain a safe and compliant operating room environment.

• Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
  • Perform perioperative patient care and surgical support activities, including scrubbing, circulating, and patient transport duties.
  • Independently prepare and maintain the sterile field.
  • Pass surgical instruments and anticipate the needs of surgeons and other members of the operative team.
  • Perform and maintain accurate surgical counts.
  • Manage and properly handle surgical specimens.
  • Assist with patient positioning and operative documentation.
  • Prepare, organize, and manage sterile instrument sets for surgical procedures.
  • Utilize designated instrument tracking systems to ensure instruments and equipment are accurately accounted for.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and sterile operating room environment.
  • Perform routine housekeeping and terminal cleaning of operating rooms.
  • Conduct equipment safety checks and support preventative maintenance activities.
  • Follow MTF protocols for hazardous materials and infectious waste.
  • Recognize medical emergencies and initiate CPR and other appropriate emergency measures as directed.
  • Assist the surgical team with advanced cardiac life support measures when appropriate.
  • Utilize designated DoD and medical systems, including DMHRSi, Cerner/MHS Genesis, and S3, for workload administration and materiel management.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and assist with training, orientation, and guidance of newly assigned personnel.

Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:

• Citizenship:
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this contract position

• Education and Certifications:
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program accredited by ABHES, CAAHEP, or completion of a formal surgical technician/technologist/operating room technician training program through a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) certification through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or applicable military occupational specialty certification

• Required Experience:
  • At least 12 months of experience within the past 24 months working primarily as a full-time scrubbing operating room/surgical technologist
  • Experience must include a multi-specialty surgical environment involving Orthopedics, Obstetrics/Gynecology including Cesarean Sections, Vascular Surgery, and General Surgery

• Required Skill and Competencies:
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, and sterile techniques
  • Strong understanding of operating room procedures and perioperative patient care
  • Ability to maintain a sterile field and appropriately handle surgical instruments and equipment
  • Knowledge of surgical counts, specimen handling, patient positioning, and OR safety
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations
  • Knowledge of infection prevention, hazardous materials, and infectious waste procedures
  • Familiarity with DoD and healthcare information systems
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills

• Work Schedule & On-Call Requirements:
  • The position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week. Routine hours are generally Monday through Friday, 0645-1530. Due to 24/7 surgical operations, shifts may also occur within 0645-1845 or 1845-0645 windows based on mission requirements
  • The position includes on-call responsibilities. On-call periods may run from Monday at 0645 through Saturday at 0645 or from Saturday at 0645 through Monday at 0645. On-call technicians may be required to report during scheduled periods and must be able to report within 30 minutes of notification

• Physical Requirements:
  • The employee must be capable of meeting the physical requirements associated with operating room and perioperative duties, including patient-care and equipment-support activities
