Associate Attorney

Associate Attorney An associate attorney performs the same tasks as other attorneys, including researching legal information, preparing legal briefs, advising clients, and arguing cases in court. However, the associate is not a partner and works as an employee without ownership in the firm. Typical responsibilities include: Conducting legal research and preparing legal documents. Maintaining filing duties and advising clients in person and over the phone. Negotiating on behalf of the firm, participating in jury selection, and arguing cases in court. Analyzing laws and developing strategies for upcoming cases. Associate attorneys usually have less than about five to eight years of experience. Early in their careers, they assist with cases and learn under the supervision of senior attorneys, gradually taking on more responsibility, obtaining their own clients, and potentially leading trial cases. Over time, with experience and performance, they may have the opportunity to become partners; however, partnership is not guaranteed. Eligibility: Recent law school graduates or attorneys with up to eight years of experience, strong legal research skills, written and oral communication proficiency, and a willingness to work in a collaborative law firm environment.
